The atmosphere was comfortable but lacking anything out of the ordinary. There's a fairly large bar area partially separated from the main dining room. The lighting scheme in the dining area was kinda painful with some annoying bright spots. Otherwise, this could be any neighborhood restaurant in any city across the country.

The draft list numbered around 34 at my visit, and gave a very fair representation to the local scene. Most of the styles represented were fairly safe - ie not much by way of "extreme" styles - but there's very little filler on the menu. The Lonerider Sweet Josie and Skull Coast Gallows Point were both good choices.

The food was okay for the most part - about what you would expect from an American pub menu. My burger was pretty good, and the steak sandwich was tasty if swimming in juice and grease. Onion rings disgustingly greasy.

Service was friendly and accommodating.

Tap City is now Fork & Barrel. It seems the staff has changed and the menu has become more fine dining and expensive. The beer list still seems decent though a bit stagnant. There's nothing spectacular here, but they offer about 25 taps and a wide variety of bottles. There's a good display of local offerings, they always have good IPAs on draft, but there's nothing high gravity or exotic. Before the staff and menu changed this was one of my favorite beer bars in N. Raleigh. It now seems a little less personable and far more high end. If you just want to stop by for a beer or two at the bar this is still a place to check out.

Tap City is now the Fork & Barrel. Have no idea if affiliated with other F&B's. Same decor and layout as before. 32 beers on tap. Great selection. Always have good IPA's and the wife's favorite Alagash White. Appetizers and overall menu has changed and gone up a buck an item. Food is good. BA's system will not let me add F&B as a new place. So there. They have at least 2 drafts on special every nite along with a bottle or 2. Been hanging here at least once a week since it opened as Tap City. Bar can get busy. Have never seen the dinning room busy. Staff and owernship have turned over. Liked the Tap City staff better, more friendly and personable.

I enjoyed lunch here yesterday. Our waitress didn't know much about beer, and the only updated beer list she had was pretty much hand-written. She did make several trips to the bar with inquiries and was very willing to help. As a result, we got to try several different beers. They had many NC beers on tap (Carolina, Mother Earth, Big Boss, Foothills, Highland, and Duck Rabbit) along with a wide selection of brews from around the US--maybe 30 in all. Only a few token BMC taps. The food, while pricey, was delicious and copious.

We definitely enjoyed Tap City and will be back for more! Perhaps we'll just sit at the bar next time...
