A dark black beer with an off-white head. The beer has a nice lacing head.

The smell is dark with mild roasted notes of coffee and dark bread crust. There is even a meaty and smoky note there.

The taste has light coffee notes, the coffee is a little sour and the coffee is not very appealing. The taste is most like spent coffee. The base is a light malty beer with a thin mouthfeel. The mouthfeel is adding enough balance to the coffee, but could use a little more fullness. When the beer warms, the sour coffee even adds a oak-like taste to the beer.

Galena hop and Irish ale yeast
IBU: 64
Drank this along side the Shire Stout and the whisky Shire Stout.

APPEARANCE: Transparent brown pour yields a two finger, looser looking, light tan, foamy head with good retention. Clear bistre brown body with lots of active carbonation. Head slowly fades to a full foam cap but leaves no real lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Roasted and dark malts, some chocolate and coffee notes, dark fruits like dates and plumbs, with some sweet cream notes as well. Pretty nice.

TASTE: Sweet and roasted up front. Caramel, roasted malts and chocolate flavors as well. Big finish with coffee and bitter chocolate, spicy and grassy hop flavors, with lots of bitter roasted and burnt grain lingering on the palate. Quite bitter with lots of sweet cream and cocoa powder. Flavorful and plenty interesting. Much like a dry Irish stout.

PALATE: Medium body and higher levels of carbonation. Plenty creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes dry on the palate. Nice feel with enough heft.

OVERALL: Good stuff. The Irish ale yeast has probably made this closer to a dry stout than an American porter, but that's what they want to call it. Pretty good flavor profile and a decent enough feel. Give it a try if you can. This was by far the best of the three beer set. The other two were undrinkable.
