It's a deli with a small beer so in terms of vibe, nothing special, but not bad either. Where the Deli really shines is the quality of the beer and sandwiches. They have about 20 taps specializing in nearby and otherwise hard to find beers for the most part. They also have a great selection of bottles which includes a ton of craft beers including Belgians. One of the great things is their mix and match 6 pack special. Grab a holder, fill it with whatever 6 bottles you want, and they give you $2 off of each bottle. And the sandwiches? Really good. High quality ingredients all around. The Deli isn't big nor is it fancy, but it's well worth a visit.

Deli cafe vibe. Some coolers. Good beers on tap. Locals and national selection. Knowlegeable bar tender who was friendly and accomidating. The other staff were pretty cold, and one was straight up douchy. But the FOH bartender made up for it. Really nice guy. Good out of distribution selections. Really great food options on meat, cheeses, breads, etc. will be back soon.

I love this place. Especially during the summer after a nice long bike ride. It is a perfect place to wind down grab a good filling and delicious sandwich and an ice cold beer. The beer and the sandwiches are amazing. Always a great selection of beers. Local, up and comers, rare, limited and also great everyday drinkers. The sandwiches, oh man so many good ones and they fill ya up. The balboa is my favorite and the prefect meal after a 40+ mile bike ride, or 5 mile ride. The owner Mike is a great guy and knows a ton about beer and is a driving force in the city for local breweries. He chased me down the street one day when i left my keys on the deli counter. The bartenders and other staff are very kind and caring about their product. On Wednesday tasting nights they might even break out some special bottles to share with their customers. I really appreciate that kind of stuff. Have yet to find a better place to grab a beer and a sandwich and hang out for a little. keep up the great work!

This place is focused on education.
Every Wednesday there is a free sampling.
I have been personally been introduced to many excellent beers this way.
Also, this place has access to many limited releases.
I tasted Voodoo's 'Some People Say Cucumbers Taste Better Pickled' here and I picked up a
bottle of Mars from Bell's before anyone else got it.
Any beer lover would love Carson Street Deli.

I can't believe I just gave this place a number score the first time I rated instead of reviewing...I've never met their beer guru/owner, but I guess he is the force that drives these rare local PA tap handles. Everytime I check his beer list online I'm salivating about another Lavery, Voodoo, Helltown, Fathead's, Full Pint, or other nanobrewery brewery only release that nobody else has.

Very neatly kept place just from strolling past the bar area and tables and seating, I sat at the bar and started drinking multiple varieties of Helltown after leaving Fathead's of course and trying their house brews I hadn't had before. The deli area is toward the back past the bar on the left, across from there the wall is lined with coolers and warm bottles six packs on display.

The bartender was great at talking beer, new quite a bit from working here I assume in addition she was generous with the samples when I was deciding my next beer.

Selection was awesome, they had Dogfish Head bottles I hadn't seen else where and across the board this place is really going for the local PA beer flavors, which is driving people like me to enjoy it quite a bit. There may have been a TV, but it wasn't a sports bar the bar setup created a nice pub atmosphere where I could actually talk beer and meet the other fine folks imbibing at the bar.

Sadly I haven't eaten at this place yet, I will be back to have some variety of corned beef and other deli meats stacked high!

I'm glad this place has been added to BA, as it is a worth stop in the great Carson Street beer-and-food pilgrimage.

My wife and I stumbled upon in one of our latest visits to Pittsburgh. It was a Sunday morning, I seem to remember, perhaps a Saturday night... we were probably on our way to Andy Warhol's grave, or just back from it. We went to Fat Head's and it was insanely packed (as usual). Got an insanely-overpriced growler of Ballast Point Sculpin' and left, then (or just before) walked down Carson and found the Deli. Decided to give it a try...

Good choice! Sure, only four beers on tap (definitely NOT 12, as the listing says!), but nice crafties. We got pints of Victory Hop Wallop, gently priced.

Made-to-order sandwiches to go with the brews...

Sat at a high-top table by the window, overlooking Carson, watching the human traffic outside... good deli sandwiches. Not crazy great like a New York pastrami sandwich, but *good*.

Not much ambience to speak of, just a deli, with a counter, some tables, that's it.

Service was very good, attentive, eager. Granted they were not crowded, but still, I appreciate it. Even though happy hour was just over, the counter guy rang our beers at the special price. Nice!

There is also beer to go, two big coolers and a shelf with a variety of American crafts and Belgian brews.

All in all, a good stop. Not a destination, not a place to hang out for hours like the previous reviewer said, but a nice joint to enjoy a sandwich and a quality beer before hitting the many bars in Carson.

Cheers to Pittsburgh!

The beer selection here was quite a surprise. Only 4 brews on tap, but two 3-panal coolers mostly full of craft/import beers. One panel is basically just big-box for the masses (Miller, etc), but one is Belgian and the rest are a very solid mix of brews from all over the US and abroad.

The owner was there and is very knowledgeable and is more than willing to discuss your likes and dislikes and to come up with options for you to go for. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

The food was okay but not quite as tasty as it looked, it looked REALLY good. I will be going back to try other food choices though and isn't that the point?

The place is not set up to be a "hang out all night" kind of bar. It is certainly a grab a sandwich and a good beer or three, then go along with your plans for the evening. Bottom line is that this is a nice place and you should definitely give it a shot.
