Brewed by:
Brasserie Caulier

Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer was once produced at the Abbey of Paix Dieu, where the lunar calendar played a central role. In keeping with the spirit of the Abbey, the Brasserie maintains the tradition of brewing only once a month, during the Full Moon.

The result?

A triple 10% brew which is smooth and full of character; a craft beer in the tradition of Belgian abbey beers. A symbol on each bottle will help you decipher under which moon your beer was brewed. This way you can compare the different brews you enjoy.

Note: Brewed during the full moon of December 2015, also called the Oak Moon.

A: Pours a hazy medium golden yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and faint honey orange highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy white head that reduces to a large patch of medium thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of pale malts and sweet light fruit (apple, pear, and white grape) with slightly lighter aromas of slightly chalky Belgian yeast with a hint of spicy/peppery yeast.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of pale malts with a moderate amount of candi sugar and light fruit (apple, pear, and white grape) sweetness. Moderate flavors of stone fruits (apricot + peach) with a slightly stronger than moderate flavor of spicy (herbal/earthy) Belgian yeast with a light to moderate amount of chalkiness. Minimal amounts of bitterness in the finish which fades away quickly leaving some lingering sweetness.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish with a light amount of alcohol warming.

O: Pretty decent offering, slightly less body and intensity of flavor when compared with some other examples in the style but perhaps slightly easier to drink. Enjoyable.

2016."Brewed on a full moon night in August called a Barley moon".Poured into a large tulip glass a hazed tangerine-like color with a huge overflowing white head....more head than beer although when it settles down it's a nice pour.Mild pineapple and vanilla in the nose,a little phenolic spice but not in your face.Overripe pineapple and honeyed sweetness up front with a drying grainy finish, the phenolic spice is noticed but not too much. Not a real complex tripel but flavorful enough to enjoy.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. This is my first beer from this brewery.

The beer pours a light yellow color with a gigantic white head that takes several minutes to settle down. The aroma is heavy on the wheat and grain, with some lemon notes mixed in.

The flavor is wheat, bubblegum, pepper, Belgian yeast and some oranges. A fairly complex set of flavors, but they all mix very well together. Easy to drink. The alcohol is very well hidden and barley detectable. I had no idea the beer was 10 percent.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very nice overall. Glad I got to try it.

3.80 E for a chalice at Little Delirium.
A-Finger of dense snow white head that breaks down leaving a nice lace on the glass. Cloudy.
S-Smells like a Belgian wit. Lemon, wheat, fruity.
T-Very delicate flavor overall for such a strong beer. Slightly tart with a wheaty maltiness with lemon flavors and plenty of yeast coming through.
M-How is the alcohol hidden so well? This beer should be boozy as hell. I guess it is the magic of Belgian brewers. Slightly creamy but quite light bodied. Soft carbonation zing with a light bite.
O-If this is truly 10% ABV it is pure magic. Beautiful beer. Cream of the crop.

Poured from a large bottle sealed with a wire and cork.
Slightly hazy amber body topped by a good size. durable, off-white head that completely coats the glass.
Moderately spicy for style with bready malts that may be a touch more prominent than average.
High ABV shows in the aroma more than in the flavor or feel.
Medium-high carbonation in a medium-full body.

Brasserie Caulier "Paix Dieu"
750 ml brown glass bottle, corked and caged
"...brewed during the full moon of December 2015, also called the Oak Moon".
Ink jet coded on the bottom of the bottle "25-02-2018 11:10:21"

Notes: Hazy golden body beneath a rocky/frothy head of bright white. Excellent head retention and very good lacing. Aroma of crushed granite/chalky yeast, sugar, soft fruit (apple, pear), golden grainy malt, vanilla, honey. The flavor displays more fruit (apricot, apple, peach) and a similar mineral component that has a little bit more of a citrus pith side to it. It's grassy, and subtly earthy and herbal with a little bit of noticeable alcohol. Drying finish with a moderate bitterness as its sweetish malt recedes.

Overall, tastes like a belgian tripel, has the hazy golden look and avererage head. It is yeasty and bready along the style, but this one is a tad too sweet IMHO for the style. Strong and the alcohol is well hidden..

A: Pale yellow with haze. The white head on top dissipates quickly into the body of the beer.

S: Fruity, with apple notes, as well as a white wine smell, Belgian Yeast, and strawberries round out the finish with a bit of booze.

T: Fruity with some syrup notes.. Strawberries, raspberries, and apricot. Slightly cloying finish, with a hit of booze.

M: Medium light, with nearly effervescent carbonation, the finish is odd, a dry finish, but a cloying aftertaste.

O: Overall for 5.99/ 750 ml of 10% Tripel.. Total value. It’s not the best Belgian Tripel, but decent and affordable.. Maybe a touch of age would round this out?

Hazy yellow with no visible carbonation, a finger of off white head, no lacing.

Caramel, banana, banana cream pie, much like many Belgian triples.

Light sweetness, clean linen, no real strong flavours to begin with but a hint of fruitiness on the finish. Definite alcohol from end of the sip all the way down the throat. Light pear and apple. A hint of bitterness on the end.

Medium thick syrupy body, light foamy slick almost oily carbonation.

Bought at Rimping in Chiang Mai, drank June 1st 2015. I think it’s a gimmick based on the full moon theme, though it’s a full moon tonight while I drink it. Smooth beer, nice to have a decent one from near the border of France.

A) Pours an inviting ochre color with a sizable pale head. A little hazy but some light shines through the body of the beer. A felicitous first impression.
S) A honeyed aroma of pear and citrus is first out of the glass, followed by notes of wheat and a certain funk. A little spicy too.
T) Wheat and spices are noticeable from the moment it hits the tongue, with the fruit not far behind. A little sharp - almost tart - and the taste of the alcohol provides a not insignificant finishing touch to the flavor.
M) Light and replete with lively, fleeting carbonation. The mouthfeel does a good job of playing a very complimentary second fiddle to the taste.O
O) A solid beer. I enjoy tripels generally and this is quite a good one, especially given the value for money.
