Collaboration with Mikkeller
One of two sequels to the Mikkeller/To Øl collab “Overall IIPA”. The same beer base as Overall, but this time cleverly refermented with wild yeast (Primarily brettanomyces). The tart, funky and odorous aromas of the brett interact with the fruity and bitter palate of the IIPA and results in somewhat of a hybrid beer. This beer might be a reference to some Belgian classic, but you have to figure it out yourself…
Ingredients: Water, Malted barley, flaked oats, Hops (Simcoe, Centennial, Amarillo), Yeast and brettanomyces
Brewed at De Proef Brouwerij, Lochristi-Hijfte, Belgium

On tap at Donnelly's Public House in Fairport, NY.
Pours a clear golden amber, with a small half inch head, and a little bit of lacing.
Smells kind of weird. There's a bit boozy presence, with some odd woodiness, some grapefruit and pine, and a lot of overly sweet malt.
I honestly don't understand why this gets the ratings it does, it's just not that good. There's some weird woody bitterness, tons of booze, rotten bitter fruit, grapefruit, passionfruit, orange, cedar, leafy hops, soap, and perfume. There are tons of flavors here, and they all clash, horribly. This tastes dirty, unclean, and just not well put together.
This is fairly thick bodied and syrupy mouthfeel-wise, not all that appealing for a Double IPA. Not drinkable, really, at all.
This was a really disappointing miss.

Pours a hazy shade of orange to brown (top to bottom) with a finger of head which quickly dissipates. Smells like barley juice! Still getting some resinous pine notes in the nose, but mainly smells like lightly toasted malts, bready, barley.
The flavor is spot on with aroma.. Mostly barley, a bit of wood like- cedar flavor, bitter hops are still present but not very dominant over the malts. Like a ripe Barleywine.
Medium body with lower carbonation.
I'm sure this was excellent fresh, hell for what it's worth this makes for a hell I a tasty barley wine.. Not too sweet, not too bitter, complex enough grain bill to still stand out with age (who knows how old this bottle is).

Bottle - not sure of release date but this may have been a bit old. No points deducted for that in this review.
Muddy orange pour with small white head. Aroma is orange, bread. Taste is caramel, sweet malts. Lighter bodied and bitter finish. I’m sure this was splendid when fresh.
