Black with hardly any head.

Anise, bitter hops, malt. A plus nose like Al Farouq Aminu's a plus defender.

Staining dark, roasted malt and cascade (?) hops. Hops a little stronger than the malt, could stand to be sweeter. Real dark chocolate flavor, tastes like 80% cacoa. Sharpness from the alcohol.

Heavy, stout-ish.

Poured from a cooled 11.2 oz bottle into a pub glass.

A: Pours a dark brown with a lovely tan head that maintains well and laces beautifully. A great-looking beer.

S: Notes of coffee and toast dominate with a touch of chocolate and booze.

T: Nice notes of dark chocolate and coffee with some toast. Toast and dark chocolate settle on the palate and linger there. A tiny bit of coffee and roast bitterness on the back end, but not an unpleasant one.

M: A great porter body with a touch of crisp carbonation to accent the malty smoothness. An easy, enjoyable beer to pull on.

O: A thoroughly enjoyable porter with great flavors. The 8% isn't at all boozey past the light whiff in the nose. I would happily drink another.

330 ml. bottle poured into a snifter glass

Appearance....... Oily black beer with foamy head colour beige of 3 fingers aprox

Aroma............... Toasted malt, coffee and smoky aroma predominance

Taste........ Some malt and notes and then hop with touch of alcohol lasting in mouth all the time.

Mouthfeel........... full body and soft carbonation

Overall............ Good porter, strong personality. Great with smoked salmon over soft cheese.

330ml bottle, part of a swath of new To Øl offerings to suddenly show up on Alberta bottleshop shelves this week.

This beer pours a fairly solid black abyss, with very bare basal red cola edges, and four hefty fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and rocky beige head, which leaves some sudsy exploded cloud lace around the glass as it slowly sinks away.

It smells of powdered bittersweet chocolate, gritty, grainy caramel malt, earthy yeast, dry cafe-au-lait, black licorice, and musty, leafy, and mildly floral hops. The taste is sharply toasted, grainy pale and caramel malt, edgy, slightly phenolic yeast, dry Scandinavian licorice 'candies', dry chalky cocoa, and plain leafy, weedy, and lightly perfumed hop bitters.

The carbonation is rather weak in its plainly rendered frothiness, the body a solid medium-heavy weight for the style, and sort of smooth, as the char and the hovering booze both take their toll here. It finishes off-dry, mostly, the cocoa and coffee essences more or less running the show, all under the watchful eye of Big Booze.

Overall, a nicely roasted big-boy porter, the various flavours all coming out to play. Not sure where the name of this one comes from, but I'm guessing that it's another one of those slightly lost in translation Danish-English things.

Glad to see the rating on this so high! Was able to pick up two older bottles of this for just a buck each! Into my sniffer.

A -Old for sure tons of caked sediment at the base yet a full inch plus of rocking creamy mocha head. Beer is as expected for an imperial porter very dark blackness.
S - Slight stingy sourdough bread quickly passed into dry porter yeasts and roast. overall smell is mild with no skunky smell.
T - Pretty good for having some pilsner in it . Slightly herbal with a touch of roasted barley and some chocolate malt. It is much more bitter than I expected with herbal blast lingering in every sip.
M - For 8% very smooth with only slight herbal bite.

Overall the herbal pine tree bite is enough to keep noting but doesn't make this beer undrinkable. Easily can polish off two bottles especially for a dollar a pop.

330ml bottle bought from The Vineyard, Belfast

Poured pretty much pitch black even when held up to the light... Dirty burnt brown head poured a big, thick and bubbly then faded fairly quickly to decent thickish covering.. lots of patchy sticky lacing...

Aroma - Roasted chocolate maltiness, strong charred coffee beans, cocoa, light liquorice, leathery and slightly sooty, toasted bread, burnt toffee, treacle, earthy / cardboard hints, roasted nuts, some sticky plum and date fruitiness, black cherries, some alcohol just noticeable...

Taste - Lots of charred roasted dark chocolate malt bitterness, sooty, some piney hops, very earthy, strong espresso coffee, dried coffee grains, toasted nutty sweetness, some treacle, faint anise...

Feel - Smooth initially then a slight sharpness comes through... medium bodied... a pretty quaffable brew considering it is 8%...

Overall - A very good Porter... definitely recommended...
