The great warrior of Gath. The mighty champion of the Philistines. Embedded in ancient folklore and religion. Coming from the World of Old. His size and stature is not human. He is bigger. The armor of Goliat is black. Creamy black lacings. Stands with a towering height. He can grab elements from both earth and heaven. Earthy, roasted, notes from the earth. Warming, pungent, sweet notes from the skies. His heart is beating slowly, almost endlessly slow. This man is thought to be invincible!

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, roasted barley, dark cassonade sugar, flaked oats, hops, gourmet coffee and yeast.

Brewed at De Proef Brouwerij, Lochristi-Hijfte, Belgium.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass.

A decent small head, with a good dark tan collar that manages some good staying power. Thin puck, but a good black tan hole of head in the middle from rising carbonation. Classic, opaque and very dark walnut brown next to black color. Leopard style lacing while drinking.

Aroma is an excellent mix of the basics. Coffee warmth that accentuates a roasty sweet malt base. Roasted bean and dark grains that envelope the nose nicely. Small hints of nice little hazelnut and chewy sensing nut like quality also make an appearance on the nose. Very nice and with soft subtle qualities, sometimes less is more and this is a perfect example.

Palate manages the goods, and even a few more surprises than expected. Silky body, even a mix of thick coating oily mouthfeel which lets the flavors stick all through your teeth. Noticeably sweet easily, but not severely, and brings out much more diverse flavors. Coffee and almost sweetened condensed milk, but takes a big turn as dark roasted malts kick in. Nice bitterness, with some tobacco notes, and a fantastic anise and slow lingering soft black licorice quality that really coats the back of the throat.

This is a real impressive stout that takes some excessive deal of sweetness, but brings out far superior and unexpected flavors. Much of the coffee notes on the palate though are lost, but what is replaced ironically is far superior.

Shared 375 ml bottle, thanks to Ole Anders. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Strong roasty aroma of coffee and wood, a hint of ashes. Even more distinct roasty and coffee notes in the flavour, quite dry, woody and ashy.

Body is basically black with a dark tan head that is thicker than expected with the high ABV. Aroma of dark chocolate, strong coffee, raisins & molasses. A fair amount of sweetness & an equal amount of coffee bitterness. All flavors promised by its aroma are delivered. Thick & smooth with a good amount of tummy heating. Overall: the perfect cup of coffee.

Bought at Clem's Bottle House in San Diego, CA. $12.99 for 12.7 oz bottle. No bottling date, consumed 09/18/2021.

A&S: Jet black beer, with a brown head. Very lackluster head, but I have no idea how long this has been aging for. The aroma contains robust coffee, dark chocolate, rich cherries with a hint of soy sauce.

T&M: Huge coffee tones upfront. Other flavors include toffee, tobacco, and raisins. The mouthfeel is soft and laid back.

Overall: Good beer, nothing mind-blowing, but a really solid coffee-forward beer.

This was my last beer at the Meddlesome Moth in Dallas on a cold night before my wife’s dance competition. Had it after an excellent shared dinner.

Poured from tap into a snifter. Very dark brown color with nice brown head and good curtain lacing. Strong smell and taste of dark chocolate. Coffe along with spicy licorice. Pleasantly earthy. A nice comforting beer on a cold evening!

Pitch black hue.

Dark khaki head; strong lace.

Chocolate malt & coffee nose.

Thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Roasted coffee up front; bitter coffee finish.

Slight pickle juice vibe mars this, but still pretty good.
