Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is our attempt of substituting the morning mochaccino coffee with a beer. You get the nicely roasted chocolate malts, some creamy lactose for the milk and a shot of nutty espresso coffee in your mug. And then some alcohol, it seemed just as obvious as some vodka in a white russian. We do not recommend opting for this beer instead of coffee (all the time…)

Ingredients: Water, Malted barley, flaked oats, lactose, Hops (Simcoe, Citra, Nelson Sauvin, Centennial), coffee and Yeast.

Brewed at De Proef Brouwerij, Lochristi-Hijfte, Belgium

On-tap served in a snifter at Hair of the Dog, Bangkok.

Translucent mahogany brown hue with some ruby tinge, it comes with very thick fluffy tan head that withstands with excellent retention before slowly subsiding to an everlasting foamy crown and leaving abundant patch and spot of sticky and complicated lace all along.

Roasted coffee bean, nutty, espresso, light chocolate, some milky lactic, toasted biscuit, bread, and some peppery spice in a nose.

The taste is just like a straight shot of espresso to your vein, it is creamy sweet and bready too by the complementary chocolate, bread, and biscuit. Roasted and toasted as well as milky lactic profile exhibit slightly thereafter with slight sourness, some astringency and bitterness.

Medium body with rather smooth mouthfeel and lively carbonation generated some crispness through the palate, finish is dry.

This one really got taste and aroma of espresso shot with a mixture of chocolate and good maltiness, so, here come your morning coffee. It is an ideal treatment when you want coffee same time equally as beer.

Deep chestnut brown body with three fingers of head that hang around for a while. Light hints of chocolate on the nose, although I find the aroma a little lacking. Flavour has plenty of coffee, hazelnut and milky chocolate. Moderate bitterness with a hint of spicy, earthy hops. Mouthfeel is rather light, but this isn't necessarily bad. Overall a very pleasant brown ale, almost like a light porter.

33cl bottle. Dark caramel-brown pour with a medium height tan head with decent retention. Notes of roasted coffee, brewed coffee, citrus hops, grapefruit zest, lactose, unripe tropical fruit and a bit of sugar. Medium body, medium to high carbonation and a roasty, caramely bitter-sweet finish.

Poured from the bottle a clear mahogany colour. Aromas of chocolate malt, coffee, and minor notes of toastiness and earthy hops. Almost slimey and syrupy in consistency. Initially sweet and bitter with a tobacco and roasted coffee body and bitter hop finish.

Would I buy this beer again? Probably.
