On tap at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy super dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and black licorice aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and licorice flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with somewhat intense aromas and flavors for a milk stout.

Such a nice, smooth, rich beer. Notes of cocoa, vanilla, cream coffee. A hint of roast, but soft, smooth roast character. So delicious!

Robert "The SA Beer Guy" in San Antonio suggested I give this a try. I'm glad he did as this brew was pretty tasty. I poured the beer into an oversize tulip and took only minutes to take it down. This fine brew pours smooth with a moderate cappuccino head and intricate lacing. It smells slightly sharp and mildly bitter-sweet with notes of milk, cream, coffee, and lightly toasted malt. The mouth feel is smooth for a stout, not heavy at all but still slightly staying. It's a tasty treat that I would be happy to share with friends and a dessert pairing, but unremarkable otherwise.

Poured a blackish body with decent head and little bits of lace.
An aroma that mixes dark, roasted malts and sweetness like chocolate.
Beer is light and smooth and remind of milk chocolate in terms of sweetness and some milkiness to beer.
Also a balance with roasted malt flavors and finishes more dry than sweeet.
A very simple yet well-crafted milk stout that I thoroughly enjoyed.

A nice deep brown almost black with 2 fingers of head, moderate dissipation. Smells of dark roast coffee with milk chocolate sweetness. A bit of licorice in the nose as well. The flavor is roasted grains mostly, Chocolatey, lots of coffee.. Reminds me of founders breakfast stout (aged for a year, the way I prefer to have it). Medium body with modest amount of carbonation.. Nice and creamy drinks like a lighter full body stout.
This is a great beer, a lot like some of the better American stouts. This brewery knows what it's doing.

been waiting a long time to try this one, finally found it in the discount bin at hazels in boulder. super cheap. very cool beer, not sure why their stuff never sells. this is almost like a wild milk stout. not in that its sour or has a funky yeast to it, beyond the cool danish stuff that ferments most of their beer, but in that it literally has a farmy, barny, dare i say cow-like character to it, really milky in a way well beyond lactose sugar. dark matte finished cocoa colored brew, short but persistent mocha head. aroma and flavor of a stout all the way, nice barley roast, middle of the road there not too bitter, and pretty rich in feel, with some lingering sweetness as the style asks for. that weird, seriously udder character is so strange though, like unpasteurized milk, which normally would kind of gross me out, but it works incredibly well here, and its not way over the top. its an accent flavor, but a very unique one that makes this totally original and new to my palate. only the cream ale from former future here locally had a similar flavor. nicely carbonated, chocolate notes in the finish, and a very satisfying night cap. not sure why this didnt sell well, its pretty awesome stuff. i might go back and see if they have any left. these guys have really taken off in some interesting directions.

Very dark brown poue with a soft, tall tan head that is slow to rise to the surface. Pine and grapefruit up front, followed by milk chocolate, lactose, cocoa, licorice and a bit of vanilla. A milk stout leaning towards a pine-forward black IPA. Right up my alley.

Pours extremely dark brown, almost black. Rich smell of coffee, chocolate, and slightly sweet. The flavours are rich as well, roasted malts, coffee, sweet chocolate, slightly syrupy mouthfeel.

330ml bottle, an 'American-style stout', made with lactose. And funk, probably funk. Props for the punny name, though.

This beer pours a pretty solid black, with spare basal amber edges, and three fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and mildly fizzy brown head, which leaves some sea waves crashing on the rocks lace around the glass as it lazily sinks away.

It smells of roasted caramel malt, buttery milk chocolate, cafe-au-lait, brown sugar syrup, an oily nuttiness, and some quickly evolving leafy, woodsy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel/toffee malt, free-range ash, bitter coffee, boiled milk, chalky cocoa powder, singed dark sugar, muddled citrus rind, and a steady earthy, leafy, and piney hoppiness.

The bubbles are fairly solid in their structurally supportive frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and mostly smooth, just a bit of roast and hop acridity potentially spoiling the fun. It finishes off-dry, the big malt, chocolate, and milky elements contending with the lingering hop bitterness.

Overall, this is a pleasant enough rendering of this broad style - I guess the biggish hops and the lactose (which would be English, but whatevs) make it so. Anyways, lots and lots of stuff going on here, but it generally works, including the well-obfuscated 14-proof alcohol quotient. And yup, no funk, thankfully!
