a huge chewy quad thats definitely a little less belgian and nuanced than others and instead drinks more like a barleywine than anything that is supposed to be yeast driven, even partially, although i really like the beer, especially this time of year when you need something this substantial with the weather changing. darker than rust colored but not quite red or brown, its a thick and hazy brew with a short lived airy white head on top of it. smells of slight oxidation, caramels, rich baked bready malts, red apple, some brown sugar sweetness and maybe a little bit of a spicy yeast, but that element is rather minimal. its minimal in the flavor too, this is instead entirely grain driven, less refined than most quads i have had and somewhat less interesting. graham cracker and almond notes in here, honey and brown sugar all through the finish, a bit of cardboard oxidation, but it flatters it, and then some bittering element that really doesnt belong in the finish. overall definitely not their best work, and not the best beer in the series, but a very tasty and heavily malty strong ale that has some real cold weather appeal. probably better when its fresh...

33cl bottle. Dark ruby pour with a tall beige head with good retention. Caramel, spices, dried fruit (prunes ,raisins), sweet chocolate and a bit of a metallic feel. Damn good.

The beer comes in a medium copper color.
The flavor offers dark fruit of prunes, dates, plums, along with a fruit cake quality in the middle, lots of carbonation, hints of spices, a balanced use of hops. The beer is dangerously drinkable, brewed to the style well.

Sugary caramel on the nose. Has a murky appearance. Earthy dark fruits and faitnly apple skin. There was an initial aroma of intense fruitiness that waned and left behind roasty malts. Has some alcohol on the palate. Smooth and dense. Breaddy and rich. Firm caramel makes it's stance. There were some hops in here but all I have left of them is a light floral in the nose and a pretty strong bitter from hops in the finish. Spice is in there too. Finishes with a bit of pepper a surprising taste of citrus. This is where the hops went. As it warms it has some woody citrus on the nose. Interesting.
I don't like the long hops bitter aftertaste in the quad. There's a bit of syrup in the swallow and it finishes sharply also because of alcohol.

Received in a snifter from tap.
3.25 A: Murky copper color. Came without a head.
3.0 S: This doesn't smell like a quad at all. Dense, barleywine-style maltiness. Hefty dose of caramel with notes of toffee. Raisin and prune fruitiness. Surprisingly hoppy with plenty of citrus.
3.25 T: Again, this isn't a quad. It's a freaking BW. Heavy caramel, plum, raisin, prune fruits. Lacking much of the subtleness found in a good quad. Heavy hitting bready/grainy maltiness.
3.25 M: Heavy body. Syrupy dense. Good moderate carbonation.
3.25 D: I was excited about ordering a quad. I didn't get one. This wasn't bad, but not what I wanted.
Aroma of caramel malt, toffee, light and dark stone fruit with milder dried dark fruit, sweet and rich; . Flavor is dominated by caramel malt and light stone fruit, complex and intense like a mixed fruit syrup, light dried fruit, sherry, coriander and clove which give a peppery mild bitterness. Thick bodied and creamy. A big, sweet caramel malt bomb with complex fruit flavors. Like the aroma the flavor profile reminded me more of an English barley wine than a quadrupel, except there was distinct Belgian spicing. Not for the sweet averse, but I enjoyed this immensely. Wish I had gotten another for cellaring. On the market in my area for a nanosecond (despite its aggressive price), so glad I got one.

A quad whose flavor is a little lighter than some, but uses the alcohol presence well. Would like to see the dark fruits featured a little bit more, but it uses that sugary caramel sweetness nice. Nice quad (not mind blowing), but would recommend
