Notes: Back in the days, only uncomplicated and tasteless beers excited and people started feeling bored before happy hour was up. Molotov Lite is a understated tour de force in rebellious hoppiness, it’s a subtle spark for action and yet by far one of the most anti-authoritative beers ever made by Evil Twin Brewing.

16 oz tallboy. No date as far as I can tell, but they just released this.

Pours a nice golden color, a little hazy. OK lacing and retention. Smell is muted earthy hops. Tastes better than it smells. Fair amount of bitterness but balanced with a nice malt backbone. Works well. Reminds me a little bit of Hopslam for some reason.

Good beer, and in my favorite format: 16 oz cans.

I picked this up at the local today on the advice of the beermeister. I really wasn't expected to be overly impressed but boy was I wrong! Poured a 16 ounce can(love) into my favorite Pilsner glass. The head was loose and dissipated within minutes....Strike one. The nose was pleasant but nothing to write home about....Strike 2. The taste? Home run! Oh man, juicy, tropical & dank. Just what I love in a DIPA. Going back tomorrow for another 4 pack or two.

Addition by subtraction- this is what happens when you back off of thirteen percent in alcohol strength and the residual sweetness that comes with it. Pulling the balance more into the realm of normal imperial IPA ranges, the "lighter" Molotov is able to celebrate the hop cone much more completely.

Juicy with golden slivers of light, a slight amber-orange tinge is scattered through its body. A beautiful medley of citrus, tropical and pine pulls from the cottony white lather and whets the mouth as light caramel, honey and simple syrup greets the early palate.

Gradually reducing its sweetness over the middle, the hops simply bloom- slathering on the palate with graceful pineapple, mango and passion fruit, then the sharpness of red grapefruit, blood orange and lemon zest. Somehow juicy and drying simultaneously, a sense of vibrant fructose lines the mouth, keeping a candied taste front and center.

Finishing with continued dryness, the ripe fruit turns to smooth pithy bitterness and floral pine shaving and needles- once again seemingly honey-dipped. With mild alcohol warmth simmering in the background, its spice gives the dryness and bitterness a slight boost. The long, sweet and sappy bitterness extends in aftertaste with echoes of citrus and tropical fruits returning in waves.

This was indeed a hoppy beer, sadly the hops were very musty smelling. In the stale way, not in the earthy way. The dark yellow of the beer was very cloudy, and the head dissipated instantly. While the blend of hops used was very, uh unique, it wasn't a pleasant combination.

The body was decent, on the lighter side of typical perhaps, but drinkability was damaged by the funky hop profile. Overall, a very meh-ish brew. But, the 16oz can was only three bucks, so it would make for an acceptable dog walking brew.

Canned on 11/20/14. 16oz can poured into a pint glass. Pours a hazy golden with a white head that fades and leaves decent retention and lacing. The aromas have alot of citrus notes. Very subtle tropical notes. Grapefruit and pineapple seem to show off. Some mango notes. Some bready notes with a kiss of caramel. The aromas really open up as it warms a little. The flavors are clean. Malts are there, but seem to take a backseat. More grapefruit and pineapple. It's somewhat juicy. Some earthy notes. Pine needles are there. Nice bitterness, but not over the top. Mouthfeel is great. It's on the lighter side of full-bodied; moderate carbonation. Extremely smooth on the palate. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Dangerously drinkable. It becomes even more enjoyable as it slightly warms.

This is a great brew. There's really not much to complain about. This is definitely a DIPA that's worth checking out if you see it. It's a fun beer to drink. You gotta love the 16oz can format as well. Well done, Evil Twin! It's ultimately a winner.

This beer pours a copper like color. Smells of pine, and a bit of grapefruit. Tastes of malty sweetness, and danky pine. This has somewhatof a thick mouth feel. Low carbonation and a lingering sweet feel left behind. This is a solid IIPA, but nothing mind blowing.

Orange/golden color, white foamy head dissipated quickly. Nice clean hop smell.
Citrus hop bite with a faint sweet malt backbone, finish is clean and makes you want another drink immediately.

A: Slightly hazy yellowish color

S: smell is like butter but with hints of rotten fruit

T: It tastes slightly better than it smells but something is giving it a sourish taste could have been the fruit it was brewed with. Can pick up some of the mango and a dose of bitterness

M: mediumish to a little full

O: The beer is average and really not worth trying that nose is awful on this beer.

Edit: Had it out of the can on 5/20/15 and I like it much better the mango is more full but still quite bracingly bitter a lot like the pith on grapefruit bitterness but the beer has less of the butter quality.

Pours into an impy pint glass a dull slightly hazed burnt orange infused medium golden with a thinner white head atop.Tropical fruits and sharp aspirin notes in the nose,a bit of sweet alcohol comes into play as well.Fruity with a bitter edge on the palate, tropical fruits but not sweet tropical fruits mind you with some herbal and sharp somewhat bitter notes in the finish, some sweetish alcohol lingers in the finish. This beer grew on me a little,at first I found it uninspiring but as it warmed more hop complexity came thru.

My introduction to evil twin and my god was it a good one! I've had a lot of IPA's but never one that had such distinctly different hop profiles from beginning to end. Although on the boozier side, this is an excellent representation of the style as well as it appeals the different people's different DIPA preference by having such a lasting/evolving hop character. Some people may not agree but I think this is a great benchmark for how DIPA's should be.

Picked up a can of Molotov lite at Total Wine. Had I seen the price of $8.49 a can, I surely would have put it back. Anyhoo, it tasted much like a grapefruit sculpin at thrice the price. So, in short, it is a beer that showcases grapefruit and not much else. Worth trying for the novelty of it, but it is certainly not worthy of the price it is being sold at.

Had this beer yesterday (11/26/14), purchased from the Hop & Goblet in Utica, NY. Love the 16 ounce can, and the creativity of the beers name. Lite? Yeah, maybe if compared to their regular Molotov Cocktail, but do not be duped by the name. I see two narrative reviews below, and agree with one in one regard, and agree with the other one in total regard. This beer has a huge aroma of pineapple, mango, with a dankness on the back end. The taste is a hop lovers delight. As juicy an IPA as you will find. Never had Pliny, but have had Heady, Seeking Alpha, Gandhi Bot, Dirt Wolf, all the Enjoy By's, Sucks, Hi Res, many times. With Heady "heading" this list, and no offense to the others, Molotov Lite is the closest thing to it you'll find around these parts. I was expecting a fun IPA, but this one is special, a flavor bomb, and at a 9.99 price point for 4, 16 ounce cans as compared to the same amount for 16.00, 100.00 in gas costs and time spent traveling, this is a no brainer. Get it while it's fresh. Nice job Evil Twin, and to the Hop & Goblet for having the savvy to get it in.

Poured from a 16oz can (Julian Canned On Date: 324:14 = November 20, 2014) into a

A- Pours an attractive, hazy, orange/lemon color with a 1/2-finger, soapy white head with no retention. (4.5)

S- Like the appearance, the aroma is bright and a offers a blast of citrus. Orange, Pineapple, Grapefruit, Mango and Pine all attack the nostrils. It is aggressive and something I can only define as 'prickly' in its aroma profile. (4.5)

T- Sweet orange juice and tropical fruit is the first to pounce, but is quickly pinned by bitter citrus rind that can only be described as a cross between orange and (white) grapefruit juice. The finish is intensely dry which is equal parts citrus rind and pine bitterness. (4.5)

M- For 8.5% ABV, the mouthfeel falls on the lighter side of medium. The dryness and intense citric bitterness makes it highly engaging and immensely drinkable. (4.5)

O- Although I have yet to try its big brother in 'Molotov Cocktail,' 'Molotov Lite' is an attack on the palate and no alcohol is detected in the aroma or flavor. Intense citrus with a sticky, pine-like finish is sure to please many a hop-head and will give those other highly rated canned DIPA's a run for their money. What's more, this version is packaged in cans and clocks in at a more 'reasonable' 8-8.5% ABV, making it something of which you can enjoy more than one. (4.5)

Pale golden and hazy. Looks like a lot of base malt…. hope I am wrong.

Dank, resiny grapefruity goodness with a bit of booze. The essence of the solid malty body is evident, but you can't really smell it.

Grapefruity hops, a good bit of bitterness and a hint of malty sweetness blend perfectly, or damned close to it.

Rich full body, perfect carbonation, and a viscous coating of hop resin left on the palate after the swallow.

When I saw how pale it was in color, the winds came out of my sails. i trusted my buddy that it was a solid brew, but I tend to like my DIPA malty and sweet with some caramel, at least somewhat. Others like them clean with just hops and base malt. But this one, light as it looks, hit all the bases. Damned good beer. And an affordable ET, at $10 for 4 pints.

16 oz can

Pours clear cereal grain golden, sediment adds some haze as you get down the can, coarse thick white head is an inch thick, slowly dissipates to a sudsy lacing.

Smells of cereal grains, grassy malts, and piney/citrus hops.

Flavor is of bready malts, caramel, toffee, and piney and herbal hops. Hops tend towards citrus and grapefruit as the beer approaches room temperature.

Full body, slightly viscous, with tingly carbonation on the tongue.

Decent DIPA, good flavor, kind of boring aroma. Drinks easy, but a bit slow. Feels like the abv it is. Worth a try, not the best DIPA out there by any means but nothing wrong with it.
