Evil Twin / Amager Bryghyus From Amager With LoveEvil Twin / Amager Bryghyus From Amager With Love

Brewed by:
Evil Twin Brewing
New York, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 12.00%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Amager is an island south of picturesque Copenhagen, mostly notable as the home of the airport, the place you go to get high and the common colloquial name for Amager is Lorteøen (Shit Island). But Amager has much more to offer than you might think. Like these two dedicated brewers from Amager Bryghus, who traveled all the way from Amager to the states to brew a pitch-black and troublesome Imperial Stout infused with the cutest blueberries. It might look shitty, but once you let it sink in you can feel the love within.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours midnight black. Moderate amount of bubbles and a slight finger of tan head that quickly fades away.

Smell: A rich and roasty dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, coffee, and fruit. Dark roasted malt with a scent of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, smoke, biscuit, and caramel with some yeast. Sweet scent of molasses. Hints of blueberries and dark fruit. A really nice rich aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a rich and roasty dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, and fruit. Dark roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, toast, caramel, and biscuit along with some yeast. Sweet taste of molasses. Fruit notes of blueberries and dark fruit. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Rich and fairly slick.

Overall: Another great stout from Evil Twin. Big dark malt flavor with a nice touch of blueberry.

Served in a snifter from a bomber.

Pours pitch-black and viscous like many imperial stouts from Evil Twin. The head forms a solid three fingers thick and resembles a coffee milk shake in color and frothy and creamy appearance. Wonderful looking beer. 5

Cocoa and dark chocolate greet my nose first, followed by caramel and vanilla, and then a touch of lightly tart fruit. Again, this resembles many an ET imperial stout. 4

Dark chocolate leave an imprint all over my palate, up front and lingering on the finish. But in the middle there's a tart berry presence that cuts through the rich chocolate flavors. The malts also offer minor smokiness, which is fine for a smoke-lover like me. 4.25

Smooth, creamy, viscous, slightly sweet and slightly tart. It's really quite drinkable and shows no sign of booze. 4.25

Proletariat bar in NYC introduced me to this beer (on tap) and it left quite an impression on me. It took a while to track down bottles but I'm glad I did. Damn tasty.

Beautifully sculpted of two breweries who seem to be "shit" upon their whole existence comes an ugly duckling of an ale but one who's taste captures the soul of every tastebud coming and going.

Amager's collaboration with Evil Twin brewers culminate in a dark mud color that casts frothy aspirations in that assured sense of capturing the nose. Once the coffee, chocolate, heavy cream and toasted smokiness washes over the nose and mouth, only glimpses of its tangy balance come into play.

Settling on the middle palate, the lavish chocolate and coffee flavors hit medium stride, while supple charred caramels and toffees play delicately behind. Then comes the fruit- could be grape, blackberry, raspberry, plum, or blackcurrant- yet the fruit is the blueberry that offers its tangy fruitiness to balance the malt and to carry a tannic-laden counterpart from the middle onward.

Full, but not intense- the beer's creamy textures are tightly woven, taking on gentle milkshake texture ahead of a chalky linger. Its 12% abv only offers a simmering warmth that helps to dry the palate modestly as that bulk of charred sweetness trample on to a sultry, savory finish wit an aftertaste of fruit skin and vinous twang.

Remarkably great fruited (Blueberry) Stout.

Big, powerful, complex, elegant.
Rich, creamy, fruity.
Intense & richly dry(ish).

I'm a big Stout Lover, & this is equal, & maybe better than the best I've had.

I might have called it Blueberry Jesus, but there ya go.

Had on tap at Sticks and Stones here in GSO.Came in a snifter a deep dark chocolate brown with a half finger deep mocha colored head atop.Roast, bitter chocolate and light blueberry in the nose, the alcohol is quite big as well.a full creamy feel makes it quite rich feeling. The blueberry presence is much bigger on the palate,it goes well with deep chocolate tones and a roasty finish, again the alcohol creeps.A fantastic fruit stout, not to sweet and/ or artificial tasting.

22 oz bottle poured into snifter.

Appearance: Dark black, like motor oil, with a rapidly dissipating coffee head.

Smell: Normal EvilTwin smell with a background of blueberries.

Taste: Huh. Not much blueberry, but the normal stout for EvilTwin.

Mouthfeel: Creamy.

Overall: Pretty nifty. Will get another.

The nose is coffee and chocolate with definite blueberry. It pours deep dark brown with a thin tan head. It enters very creamy with chocolate coffee blueberry mingling together. The brewer has added enough blueberries to notice but not enough to overpower the beer – nice balance. It dries on the finish with a mild bitterness augmented by the light roast flavors. This is a chewy, full bodied beer with medium carbonation.

Bought and poured into a wine glass at our Airbnb in Brooklyn, NYC.

L: Evil Twin seems to have a weird preoccupation with their beer looking like feces. They describe Soft DK as being inspired by a soiled diaper, and this beer is described as looking "like shit" on the side bottle description. If not for that description, I would describe From Amager with Love as having a wonderful cinnamon mocha head that laces intensely and seems to have cinnamon sediment in it. "That's a great head." It looks like it has the consistency of sludge, with magma-like bubbles. Leaves oily lacing.

S: Blueberry cinnamon coffee cake.

T: Definite blueberry sweetness, not sugary and not tart or tangy like some other fruit stouts become. Not really jammy either. Like blueberry skim milk, you know? Like strawberry milk except blueberry.

F: Thinner than it looks. It's about the thickness of skim milk, but it looks like heavy cream.

O: The look and smell are the best parts of this beer and kind of write a check the flavors and feel don't cash. It's fine.

A- Jet black with thin tan head, minimal lacing
S- Roasty malt with some berry sweetness, but I wouldn't have been able to pinpoint blueberry
T- Still not able to pinpoint the blueberry, but nice roasty malt stout with a slight sweetness from the fruit. I like this one.
F- Medium thick
O- Great fruited stout

Very dark brew, topped with a mocha brown head. Retention is only OK.

Strong roasty aroma: tons of coffee and chocolate, and a touch of cream. Perhaps a bit of berries on the nose, but it's really indistinguishable (to me) from the very typical stout notes of overripe, slightly sour fruit. Smells like a big, bold, strong brew.

Liquid s'mores: chocolate and marshmallow, roasted barley and fried banana, a touch of coconut and cream. On the sweeter side, but nowhere near the sweetest stouts (including some others by Evil Twin). Between the thickness and moderate sweetness, I would say it falls into dessert stout territory.

Not getting much in the way of berries, save perhaps for a slight juiciness on the front and back-end. I'm not complaining; it's a delicious beer.

Amazing feel, as is typical for an Evil Twin stout. Thick, luscious, creamy, velvety, nearly chewy; a touch of heat on the back-end, but otherwise no indication of the sky-high ABV. Coats the mouth.
