Notes: On a pilgrimage for immortal craft beer, we tripped on some heavenly drops of beer with amazingly overwhelming aromas of chili peppers and more, a thick fudge-like body, pitch black color and obviously only made in limited amounts. And the taste….furthermore jesus.

I came across this gem on a recent work related trip to Fort Knox, KY.
This is one smooth, complex and delicisious brew.(has it really been retired - so sad)
According to the bottle - produced and bottled by Evil Twin Brewing at Cervesa del MONTSENY Sant Miquel de Balenya, Barcelona, Spain. Product of Spain. (I now have a good reason to go to Spain and stock up on this delicious brew)

Smells strongly of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, molasses, coffee, vanilla. Tastes is sweet malt forward, cocoa, hint of coffee, vanilla, and transitions to a pleasant pepper burn - sweet and spicey. no bitter notes to speak of - a pleasant balance of sweet and spicy. Very clean finish. Medium to full bodied, little carbonation, but the balance is so good that at no time does it become syrupy.

Overall, one of the best chili imperial stouts that I've had - slightly better than my long time favorite chocolate sombrero by clown shoes. great stuff. I'm curious to see how it compares to their other beers - 'even more jesus'
if you see it - pick it up. great stuff

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours midnight black with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid finger of tan head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A rich, roasty, and spicy dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, coffee, and chili peppers. Dark roasted barley malt with a scent of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, biscuit, toast, and yeast. Big scent of spicy chili peppers. Sweet scent of molasses. Also some hints of black licorice and tobacco. Subtle dark fruit hints of prune, fig, raisin, and cherry. Hops are pretty faint. A really good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a roasty, rich, and spicy dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, and chili peppers. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, biscuit, smoke, and yeast. Big taste of spicy chili peppers. Some notes of black licorice, tobacco, and leather. Sweet taste of molasses. Dark fruit undertones of raisin, cherry, prune, and fig. Very light hops. A great taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Rich, chewy, spicy, and somewhat syrupy. Mild alcohol heat.

Overall: A really good twist on a great Imperial Stout. The chili peppers add a nice spicy kick that blends well with the dark malt flavors.

From a 330 ml bottle to a tulip glass.

A-The beer looks dark and thick. The head is on the short side with little retention. The foam is a nice, deep, brown color. It looks the part.

S-The aroma is rich and suggest well-roasted malt. I smell bakers chocolate, cocoa powder, some dark molasses sweetness and, of course, chili spice. The heat here comes through as chili powder instead of the vegetal, fleshy green chili flavor that is often present in spiced-up beers.

T-The taste is similar to the smell, but more complex. I get some cream or marshmallow flavor at first, but that is soon replaced by rich, dark roasted flavors like semisweet chocolate, cocoa powder, brown caramel, and dark molasses. The chili heat comes on the mid-palate, but fades towards the finish. There is virtually no alcohol.

M-The feel is thick and robust without getting syrupy. Carbonation is softer.

O-This is a very good beer. I especially like the chili flavor, which is dry and dusty instead of fleshy and vegetal. I love spice and this beer has just the right temperature for me--not too hot, but enough to add complexity. The mouthfeel is also a highlight. One of the better chili beers out there.

11.2 Fl Oz bottle, no born on date due to brewer indifference, poured into a tulip glass at 55 degrees F:
L - Black with a hazelnut head that dissipated slowly
S - malt and not much else
T - wow! better than expected. on top of being a superior stout, the chili hits you on the finish at just the right amount of heat
F - thick mouthfeel with medium carbonation throughout.
O - a very nice beer that doesn't feel like 12%. Nice chili heat on the finish

12 oz bottle poured into Speigelau glass

A: pitch black almost no head whatsoever but very small tan mocha head

S: very deep roast , anise, some bakers chocolate I can't really pick up any peppers

T: very nice stout some nice deep roasted malts, chocolate, anise maybe a tingle from the peppers but not much taste from them.

M: Very thick lovely feel

O: This is a fantastic stout I'm a little disappointed the peppers aren't more prevalent I notice some heat but I'm wondering if it's my imagination or if it's real either way what a great stout. It's thick and such a roast deep chocolate flavor actually you do get residual heat from the peppers which is quite wonderful.

Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a dark black, with a very small head, and basically no lacing.

Smells like chocolate, mild pepper, molasses, and roasted malt.

It tastes pretty much the same. The chili character is fairly mild, there's also some chocolate, molasses, a little bit of hop bitterness, and roasted malt.

This is fairly thick, luxuriously bodied, very creamy, with a normal level of carbonation for the style.

This worked pretty well for me.
