Despite his bitterness, lack of power and insuperable aversion to any over-the-counter labor- he kind of has a charming charisma, and perhaps he is even lovable. Somehow we find him unbelievable irresistible and stimulating because he is one of the few that masters the ability to effortlessly impress with wide-ranging conversation even though he was not even supposed to be here today.

Canned spring 2016; drank 6/11/16 @ the Yarchives.
Cloudy yellow/orange appearance.
A violent pour yielded a huge, noisy bright white head; a thick curtain of lace.
Pine needle, cane sugar & faint lime notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Mango & dry pine needle flavors up front; fresh-cut grass & faint fresh ganja notes on the finish.
Not my IPA profile, certainly, but slightly above average.

Four pack copped from Bottle King in Livingston. Pours a golden, effervescent hue with minimal frothing. Mellow aroma replete with hints of citrus and grapefruit. Similar overall flavor profile.

16 oz. Can
Batch #008
Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice cloudy pale orangy color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy two-finger white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, mango), nice little pine/diesel like. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, mango), nice little pine/diesel like. Medium body, ABV hidden very nicely, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a pretty tasty brew. Nice to see it around here.

Batch 007. Poured into Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours an almost clear, golden color with an enormous, fluffy bright-white head and lacing. The smell is dominated by bitter citrus. Mostly lemon but some grapefruit. I can't tell the age of the can but the base is sweet, bready malt with light citrus and bitter, biting Simcoe hops. It's nicely balanced albeit on the sweet malt side. Overall, this is quite drinkable and a nice balance of sweet malt and bitter hops.

It's been a while that I enjoyed a great East Coast(?) style IPA for its crisp, dry and bitter flavor. Now it came down from the Heavens - or was I wrong to see Jesus' figure on the can? :)
Anyway, if not a work of religious art, it is definitely an ode, an ode to Simcoe. Simcoe, that you don't drink straight too often for being a bittering hop - but now you got it. This is how to make a superb IPA out of Simcoe.
I am honestly glad that Evil Twin came out with this as I've always been fascinated by Simcoe, trying to decipher its taste out of the complex IPAs - and now here I have it, full on. And it's amazing. And it's piney. Earthy.
And now I know what adds that punch to the best IPAs. That piney, twisty bitterness, that fascinating taste that lies underneath. Well, this is the time that it got brought up to the surface and this is where it shall stay!
Forever live Simcoe! Cheers to this great beer, thanks Evil Twin!

Batch #003
Pour from 16oz can into snifter glass, inch of consistent white head, pale yellow body, minimal lacing
Aroma is lots of pine with a hint of grape fruit, with a bready malt funk, I’m with it
Taste is dank, bitter earthy pine hops followed by a toast like bread flavor
Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, slightly thicker, resin comes to mind, long dry sticky finish
Overall I picked up this single can for $3 something and I’m satisfied, I think it may be old since it’s lacking some of the citrus flavors I associate with Simcoe but still solid

I am rather inCANredulous at how many CANs of Evil Twin Brewing's beer I have acCANumulated for inclusion in The CANQuest (tm)! I had begun running through them at the end of New Beer Sunday (Week 677) & CANtinued my efforts yesterday during NBS (Week 678) so now I am simply finishing up. I have a couple/few days' worth left, but since my 53rd birthday is next Sunday (Week 679) & I have plans that may curtail my involvement that day, I am getting them in while I CAN.
From the CAN: "Despite his bitterness, lack of power and insuperable aversion to any over-the-counter labor- he kind of has a charming charisma, and perhaps he is even lovable. Somehow we find him unbelievable irresistible and stimulating because he is one of the few that masters the ability to effortlessly impress with wide-ranging conversation even though he was not even supposed to be here today."
I Crack!ed the CAN open & began a slow, gentle pour into the awaiting glass. An in-glass swirl raised a finger of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with good retention that left behind nice lacing in its wake. Color was a gorgeous Yellow-Gold with NE-quality clarity, calling forth The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus, all vying for a taste. Nose did not have the cattiness that I expected from a beer with "Simcoe" so prevalent in its name, but no matter. Pine, melon, tropical fruits, slight dank, some cattiness and an earthy maltiness were all in evidence on the nose. Mouthfeel was medium. This was more in line with what I expect from an AIPA - it was quite bitter, very citrusy with grapefruit & lemon peel leading the way, underscored by Simcoe the Kitty & her cattiness, backed up with an earthy maltiness and then finished with honeydew melon which was not terribly sweet, either. It was not so bitter as to be puckering or off-putting, but when I rail against the modern tropical hop flavors, I would be remiss if I did not rave about one that taste the way that I expect. Finish was dry, bitter, catty, dank & just the way I would want it. YMMV.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a chalice.
Appearance: Pours a bright amber orange. Moderate amount of bubbles and about a finger of off white head that settles into a thin patchy layer.
Smell: A juicy and earthy hop forward aroma with a scent of citrus and grass. Citrus hop scent of orange peel, grapefruit, mango, and lemon. Earthy hop scent of grass and cannabis. Malt hints of caramel, cracker, and grains with some yeast. A pretty nice aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and earthy hop driven taste with notes of citrus and grass. Citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange, mango, and lemon. Earthy hop notes of grass and some pine. Background malt notes of caramel, grains, and cracker along with yeast. A pretty good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, drying, and pretty smooth.
Overall: A very good IPA. Good mix of citrus and grassy hop flavors.
