Drank from a 1 pt. 6 fl. oz. bottle purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA
Served in a tulip

Viscous, motor oil-like appearance. The pitch black body was capped by a small, frothy, saddle brown head that fell to a thick, lasting collar. With a swirl of the liquid, a sticky yellow film coated the glass. Dots of lacing could be seen as well.

The aroma was insanely bourbon forward. This might have smelled more like actual bourbon than beer. Super fragrant and smooth. Moderately boozy. Big fresh vanilla bean presence. Roasted malts were also noticeable. Dark fruits came through as well. Plums and raisins specifically. This had an almost Port wine-like quality to it. Fairly sweet but not overly so. Some maple was detectable but not as much as I anticipated. As the beer sat, the bourbon mellowed and the Port wine, dark fruit and maple notes intensified.

The flavor profile was just as spectacular as the aroma. Really rich, malty and robust. Enormous bourbon presence. Like the nose, the bourbon was front and center, but the booze was surprisingly restrained. Chocolate fudge came through in the center. Strong vanilla notes as well. Dark fruits were again noticeable. Big raisin presence. A touch of Port too. Hint of oxidation. Moderate amount of sweetness. More roasted malts on the back end and the finish. Fair amount of lingering booze. The raisin and Port-like notes really intensified as the beer warmed.

Terrific full bodied mouthfeel. Creamy, slick and smooth on the palate. The liquid contained a moderate, fairly aggressice effervescence that frothed up beautifully. Really soft and fluffy.

Imperial Biscotti Bourbon Maple Syrup Barrel-Aged is another outstanding pastry stout by the pastry stout masters at Evil Twin. Though rich and sweet, this beer was far from being excessively syrupy or cloying. Frankly, I think it could have used even a bit more maple. The only real downside of this beer is the price point. At $29 a bottle, these Biscotti Break variants really put a dent in my wallet and probably will continue to do so in the future.

Oily black pour with a thin brown ring. Bourbon and oak aromas meld in the maple, semi-sweet chocolate, cookie biscuit, brown sugar, date, and slight char. The best best about the taste is the crescendo finish with the maple singing out of the boozy bourbon and molasses, before this the sweeter flavors fold into the brown sugar, chocolate and biscotti especially. Body is surprisingly on the thinner side, though still viscous, sticky, rich, and very boozy. Great variant, maple is strongly present without being obnoxious

Pours into a snifter jet black with a half finger deep mocha colored head atop.A heady mix of maple and vanilla tinged bourbon, sweet alcohol comes into play more as it warms.Bourbon and maple syrup soaked nutty fruit cake flavors with a warming alcohol presence in the finish,it never gets cloying or overly sticky..This is one rich but not overly sweet impy stout,it's a sipper but you could have another beer after it.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Inky black with one finger of brown head. Retention is decent, lacing exists in the form of broken rings and small spots.

S: Big fudge and chocolate cake pull. Lots of roast and char. Woody, marshmallow. Earthy. Spike of bourbon.

T: Follows the nose. German chocolate cake and fudge up front. Glazed chocolate donuts. Big roast/char layer with a little bit of an acrid edge. Nutty. S’mores. Smokey and marshmallowy. Tight berry flavor at its core. Maple syrup and woody, earthy flavors. Corny sweet bourbon swells on the back end. Long whiskey, maple, and wood finish.

M: Heavy, round, creamy, chewy. Somewhat coating. Some firmly scrubbing carbonation keeps the stickier textures from settling in. Alcohol warmth.

O: Outstanding. Pretty barrel driven and plenty of maple, though it never goes overboard. It feels balanced enough to stay relatively drinkable for its size. This is still a slow sipper of course, but it won’t leave you feeling as though you’ve contracted diabetes like a lot of pastry stouts do. For the (considerably high) price tag, I do prefer the “regular” bourbon barrel aged version and consider it to be a personal favorite. That said, this one is still able to scratch an itch. I am not disappointed. I will also note that this bottle is a good 3 to 5 years old in my estimation, and probably would have fared better if I had consumed it earlier. If there was much coffee in this one to begin with, it has certainly faded out and lost some dimension.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours deep black color with a one-finger khaki colored head that eventually reduces to a ring around the glass

S- the aroma is dominated by sweet maple, bourbon & wet oak. The barrel notes really come through. Undertones of molasses, brown sugar, roasted almonds, amaretto, vanilla, coffee & booze soaked raisins

T- sweet maple hits the palate immediately up front, followed by notes of vanilla cream, chocolate, rum soaked raisins, molasses, brown sugar, chocolate fudge & toffee. The finish brings out bourbon and wet oak, along with more vanilla, dark cherries, almond & a hint of coffee. More maple sweetness on the linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a slightly creamy mouthfeel that continues into the finish

O- the barrel treatment really comes through, produces an incredibly complex, fantastic beer

Jet with purple trails; vanilla, slick ash, + blackberries; big deep brown sugar, a ton of vanilla, some more (mapley) sugar, prune juice, raisin + a ton of blackberry.

Too sweet! Where’s the bourbon? Maple, OK, but needs something to clear it up. Just pure sugar.

Pours midnight black with slight ruby tones when held to the light. Thin dark brown head and minimal lacing. Aroma is heavenly, dark roasted chocolate malt, bourbon, maple, vanilla. Flavor follows the nose and almonds join in. Feel is thick and creamy. Easily one of the nicest beers I've ever drank, but one I cannot afford to make a regular.
