Old Fashioned Lemonade IPAOld Fashioned Lemonade IPA
Notes: Collaboration with Omnipollo

A refreshing drink often associated with childhood nostalgia to others a pop-cultural symbol of emancipation. Whatever the association we teamed up with good old Swedes, Henok and Karl of the fashionable Omnipollo to squeeze out a tasty, tempting and deceivingly well balanced IPA with sweet and sour notes of old-fashioned memories. Perhaps you can taste the dishonesty, it's all over your breath -it's Lemonade.

Evil Twin Brewing "Old Fashioned Lemonade IPA"
12 fl. oz. can with an illegible code starting with "ETLIPA2..."
$4.49 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: I read the name, as it's written, as "Old Fashioned Lemonade IPA" and thought what the hell is an old fashioned lemonade IPA? I've never even heard of one. Then it dawned on me, it's old fashioned lamonade, not lemonade IPA. Duh.OK, it's poured a very hazy golden-orange beneath a short head of white that dropped almost immediately. That's not good but I can be forgiving on appearance. So what does it smell like? I'll let you guess. It smells like sweet lemonade and grainy malt. On to the flavor... well, no surprises, it's like you physically mixed lemonade with a straightforward IPA. I'm not really even getting hops out of it. Yeah, sure, there's some, but it's not like a hoppy IPA - but then again, why would you waste the hops if you're going to make it a lemonade beer. Of course they could have just made it a little less strong and called it an old fashioned lemonade pale ale which is really what it tastes like. That would not have sold as well. Ohh, I almost forgot, it's a bit tart as well, so you've got sweet and tart and grain and lemon and a little bit of hops backed by a moderate bitterness. You get the hops pretty nicely in the burp. I wouldn't call it complex, it really is like lemonade added into an IPA. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. Any more carbonation would probably accentuate the acidity so it's good as it is, and then it's smooth like a lemonade. Nicely done. The only thing I haven't noted so far is that the lemon seems artificial, but at the same time the lemon almost always seems artificial in lemonade unless you get the reals thing, which is rare. Of course, THAT is what I'd call "Old Fashioned Lemonade". In the end this is a pretty decent and refreshing beer. I'd like more hops, but I'd like more hops in almost anything. As a summer beer this is absolutely worth trying.

Pours a hazy bright lemon yellow with a thick white cap that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is decidedly lemon forward but also sense some funk. Flavor is all lemon with a touch of sour funkiness that I associate with farmhouse or wild ales. No hop bitterness. Feel is fine but overall this doesn't seem like an IPA to me. Not my cup of lemonade.

My seCANd beer of New Catch-Up Beer Sunday (Week 696) is a recent score from a trusted bottle shop so I am curious if it is back in production. No matter. This one is part of my Go Green! theme, picking up from Brewdog's earlier Hazy Jane. It is all a part of The CANQuest (tm), which will give you your USDA ReCANmended Daily Allowance of madness. Sit back, strap in/on & get ready for the ride!

From the CAN: "A refreshing drink often associated with childhood nostalgia to others a pop-cultural symbol of emancipation. Whatever the association we teamed up with good old Swedes, Henok and Karl of the fashionable Omnipollo to squeeze out a tasty, tempting and deceivingly well balanced IPA with sweet and sour notes of old-fashioned memories. I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. It started out fairly clear, but as I CANtinued, it beCAN to take on a light haziness & so I stopped what I was doing. This gave me a ChANce to CANduct a vigorous in-glass swirl that raised a brief finger of foamy, fizzy, soapy, tawny head with modest retention. Color was a slightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose smelled EXTREMELY lemony! OMFG. I LOVE what these guys are doing, especially in CANs, but for an AIPA, it was NOT to style. (Shrugs.) Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but thin for the style. The taste was REALLY tart, VERY lemony & great on a hot, hazy, humid Summer's day, but again, not really to style. Any hops & their inherent bitterness were lost in the noise of the intense citrusy lemon flavor. I liked it, I enjoyed it, but it is going to suffer when I rate to style, as I ultimately must. Finish was dry, tart, refreshing, but not in keeping with the style. YMMV.

Is exactly what I'd expect given the name. The lemon is very present in the nose and taste with the hop acid balancing it all out. The mouthfeel is a balanced but you'd almost want a touch more body/malt; not sure if that would alter the taste much. Well worth it if you like lemon and IPAs - great lawnmower or pool beer.

Picked up an old can from the House of 1,000 beers.
A - Very lively beer hazy golden yellow with an inch plus of fizzy frothy foam.
S - Not getting much lemon just some citrus hops and a touch of sweet malts.
T - Wow now I get the lemon it is pretty balanced with the IPA leaving a citrus hop flavor and some sweet malts in the finish. Wouldn't really call it a "lemonade" but it is an IPA with bright lemon flavor.
M - Pretty crisp and clean with mild tartness and a smooth finish.

Overall this beer is very good again don't go in expecting a very sugary lemonade but do expect a very lemon forward IPA.

This beer pours a orange/golden color. Very murky. The head is white, 2 finger, frothy. Retention is poor.
The nose is a pine/citrus/lemon mix. Interesting aroma.
Taste - well, there's a lot of lemon in this beer. I get it mixed with some pine up front. The backside is really lemony.
Feel is moderate bodied. Tart feeling.
Interesting IPA.

12 oz can poured into a teku

A- A hazy golden copper with a three finger white head

S- Lemons, a little more on the sweet side than the tart side, some piney and floral hops.

T- Lemon candies, slightly tart, touch of honey, floral, some piney hops.

M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A very interesting beer. It works for the most part, kind of reminds my of honey lemon cough drops in a good way.

Comes in a hazy, almost opaque yellow color with a foamy white head that eventually dies down into nothing, leaving little to no lacing.

Smells like powdered lemonade, lemon candy; a bit of crackery malt and faint pineapple.

Tastes like lemonade. Lightly tart with cane sugar sweetness. Big lemon candy vibes. Almost nothing else, save for some crackery malt, hints of hay, and pineapple. Finishes well, though, not really sweet. Very balanced.

Feels medium, moderately carbonated, smooth.

Not really an IPA, in my opinion, but as a shandy or a general alcoholic beverage, it's delicious. Super refreshing.

Got this beer from my bro-in-law. It poured a hazy yellow with white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had lemon zest. The taste was very fruit leaning. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's ok.

L-Pours a two and a quarter headed bubbly head. The beer itself is llight and hazy with heavy carbonation. Looks a little like lemonade (hint hint)
S-Very spicy upfront. Piney, grassy and of course, citrusy hops are present. Very fruity, and yeasty. I also get a strong sense of lemon zest.
T-Very juicy! Citrusy lemon pop, with a crisp iced down finish in every sip. It is also just bitter enough to give a satisfying bite.
F-Crisp with a slight amount of thickness.
O-Very great beer! Evil twin has made an extremely tasty and refreshing IPA. The slight bitterness combined with the pronounced hop flavor and spicy notes keep the lemonade honest enough to keep itself a true IPA. Perfect beer for the summe. With that being said, it's surprisingly heavy.

Beautiful pour. Heavy lemon on the nose with a little citrusy hop presence. Very sweet but then again lemonade is right there in the name. Nice and tart. The hop presence is subtle so alot of it is lost with the over powering lemon flavors.

Soft-Serve.

A: Juicy lemons, candied lemon zest, floral hops, light malt sweetness.

A: Bright yellow color, super hazy, with a thick white head that's everlasting.

T: Moderate lemons and candied lemon zest, with moderately light malt sweetness, with very mild hop bitterness and juicy finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, very smooth mouth-feel.

O: Interesting; the beer has a great floral, candid lemon quality and the soft-serve really show off the beer's aromatics.
