Served in a over-sized wine glass right from a one pint can.

Appearance: Thick motor oil black with a dark tan head rising a. Itch below a finger's length.

Smell: Deep espresso and coffee bean. To knock it is seriously just showing straight bias. Hovers your nose with a sweet warm brown sugar aroma, just makes you lust.

Taste: Conplex brew, first off the coco is subtle the molasses are ultra evident and the bitterness from a coffee bean feel make this beer super alluring. Your palates are everywhere, sweet-bitter-complex.

Mouth: Medium carbonation but very full bodied. Sticky, real sticky...paired with some hummus and chips I'm still feeling it.

Overall: Can't complain, I already had the beer rating in my head prior to writing this and surprised at the average. You see this, grab it. Salud!

Many thanks to jvgoor3786 for this one!

A - Pitch black pour with dense toffee colored lacing, lots of legs on the sides of the glass.

S - Dark roasted malt aroma, smoke / char, some delicate maple aroma, and a little bit of alcohol booziness.

T - Dark chocolate roast, char and smoke, maple, for a brief moment get a hit of cherry (weird I know, but yes), coconut is present but buried, cocoa, and cocoa cream/vanilla. Overall, the dark malt and char rule this beer along with some acrid dark malt notes.

M - Full bodied and thick with velvety, syrupy texture on the tongue. Alcohol warming on the way down (initially) but eventually dies down after the palate adjusts.

O - Big and bold, dig the smokey char however it dominates the beer.

From the bottom of the can: "Batch #001 18:30"

Appearance: The beer pours oily and black into a pitch black body. The head is medium sized with a dark brown appearance and a creamy textured surface. It slowly fades down to a thin layer of foam and a nice thick ring around the edge. It has pretty good retention and head formation for a beer that boasts "12% ALC BY VOL" on the can.

Aroma: There is a light aroma of dark chocolate and just a touch of burnt coffee pot.

Taste: The flavors are pretty consistent throughout the drinking experience. It has a nice bitter chocolate flavor. While it doesn't taste much like alcohol it has a bit of a chocolate liqueur flavor to it. It has some light woody bourbon notes and a bit of a charred finish.

Mouthfeel: The texture is thick and it just oozes over the palate with this smoothness. It feels fantastic on the palate.

Overall: The beer is fantastic but it might be a bit misleading. On the front of the can near the bottom it says "IMPERIAL STOUT WITH MAPLE SYRUP AND COCONUT ADDED." It doesn't taste or smell anything remotely like maple syrup or coconut. Discarding the label on the can, the beer has a great bitter chocolate flavor. It hides the alcohol very well, it is decadently smooth, and it would be highly competitive with the best Imperial Stouts on the market. I would drink it again and I would recommend it but I would place a huge caveat on that recommendation so that people are not expecting maple syrup or coconut.

16 ounce can into snifter; batch #001, no can dating. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy dark brown bread with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, coconut, toffee, maple, molasses, brown sugar, marshmallow, toasted biscuit, and dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, wood, charcoal, tobacco, raisin, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, coconut, maple syrup, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, coconut, toffee, maple, molasses, brown sugar, marshmallow, toasted biscuit, and dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, wood, charcoal, tobacco, raisin, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate roast/char and herbal/woody hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, coconut, toffee, maple, molasses, brown sugar, marshmallow, toasted biscuit, dark bread, light smoke/char, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coconut, maple syrup, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance. Slight acrid/astringent roast/char and bitter hops after the finish, but not overwhelming. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and fairly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden; a fair amount of warming, with minimal booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing imperial stout. All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coconut, maple syrup, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on, despite the increasingly bitter/drying hop/char bitter finish. They did a fantastic job at balancing the base beer complexity with the coconut and maple syrup; but it does not feel quite as rich and complex as the actual base beer. Still a highly enjoyable offering.

Guess I got a bad one, but this tasted like roasted cigarettes. None of us liked it at all. No coconut, no maple, just ash. Really bummed me out because I'd been wanting to try this for a long while.

Fantastic looking brew. Motor oil black pour and sticky, prominent, persistent dark brown foam. Aroma is rich, fudgy chocolate. Notes of roast, coffee, dark fruits, coconut. Don't pick up much maple. On taste, again rich chocolate is prominent. Coffee, dark fruit, brown sugar. Coconut and maple are there, but not prominent. Big, thick mouthfeel with low-moderate carb. A nice dry finish. Excellent brew.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours midnight black. Moderate amount of bubbles and a big two finger tan head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A very rich and roasty dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, coconut, and syrup. Dark roasted malt with a scent of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, biscuit, smoke, caramel, toffee, and nuts with yeast. Good scent of coconut and maple syrup sweetness. Hints of dark fruit and molasses. Also some hints of earthy hops. A really good rich aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a very rich and roasty dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, coconut, and syrup. Dark roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, biscuit, toffee, caramel, smoke, and nuts along with yeast. Sweet notes of coconut, maple syrup, and molasses. Undertones of dark fruit and earthy hops. A really good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, rich, and slick. Alcohol heat is minimal.

Overall: A very good variant on a great Stout. Nice touch of coconut and syrup to the dark roast notes.

Pours a big frothy dark tan head; retention is only OK, and lacing is nice enough.

Aroma is nutty and woody, featuring maple, roasted barley, coffee, chocolate, nuts, red grapes, char, and toasted coconut.

Flavor ... doesn't exactly follow the nose, in this case. Quite woody and ashy up front, with a burnt coffee touch to the roasted barley and some toasted coconut; other notes include cream and red grapes. Around mid-palate it smooths out, bringing out more chocolate and a slightly sweeter kiss to the coconut. Maple really presents mostly on the back third, in a blend of sweet syrup, brown sugar, and dull wood.

Super smooth; lively and easy to drink. It's cliche to point out how these high ABV brews drink like they're much less potent, but it's certainly the case here. I've had stouts in the 8-10% range that present far more alcohol heat than this 12% brew.

All in all a pretty good brew, but I have to say it's disappointing given the potential (maple syrup + coconut + Evil Twin imperial stout = can't miss, right?). I'll revisit the review if subsequent cans change my mind.

Black color with creamy mocha head. Aroma has sweet malts, sugar, caramel and a hint of dark berries. Taste starts sweet, desserty but gets more roasty and bitter towards the finish. Full bodied, smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Not too different from the regular. The coconut and maple flavors are really faint.
