Good, but another typical pastry stout.

Served in a red wine glass from the can.

Appearance: Dark brown tinted black body with medium bubbles and a dark tan head rising light maybe half an inch off the body with a hard pour. No lacing on the body and the brew just looks super impressive.

Smell: The beer gets better as it warms up, deep aroma consisting of vanilla and cinnamon. You smell coffee and a light hint of half and half.

Taste: Deep mocha and has a slight spice to it. Cinnamon offsets the chocolate and massed but the flavor is just all over the place.

Mouth: Sticky brew, brown sugar coffee with hint of cinnamon makes me think of how my mother brews espresso. Medium carbonation and full bodied.

Overall: Great brew, awesome pick up..hard to give full credit to Eviltwin with the beer being brewed at thimble island. Not sure who the brains behind the brew is but regardless it's definitely worth a grab. Always in a glass...Salud.

Pours pitch black color with a 2+ finger thick tan foamy head that was packed with tiny bubbles, dissipating very slowly but sadly leaving little to no lacing. The only lacing appeared after each sip, as the brew slid back down the glass.

Smells of dark chocolate, soy sauce, burnt coffee grinds, brown sugar, cocoa powder, Hershey's chocolate syrup, roasted malts, charred wood, molasses, milk chocolate, minor booze and hints of spices. Sweet overall, this is a chocolate malt special that hides the 12% ABV masterfully. Enough complexities to keep it from being a one trick pony, it avoids being just malty with the other accents present throughout each whiff.

Taste is sweet overall with dark chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, soy sauce, candied sugar, smoked grains, charred wood, cocoa powder, Hershey's chocolate syrup, roasted malts, mild black licorice, milk chocolate, sweet booze like rum or a liqueur, and hints of spices. The sweetness hides the ABV, but it's too much dark chocolate with little to no hoppy balance or spices. The lack of spice is surprising since this was brewed with chili and cinnamon. I was looking forward to the chili heat complimenting the dark chocolate, but it never showed up.

Poured from 16oz can into 16oz pint glass. Canned on 1/30/18.
Look: Pitch black, with motor oil appearance. From a fairly simple pour, about 1 and 1/2 fingers width of a tan frothy head, which dissipated quickly. During the pour, you can tell this beer is has a good viscosity to it.
Smell: Warm and inviting, with a little hint of booze. Has a malty, nutty, chocolate/toffee aroma to it. The molasses, chocolate, roasted malts and cinnamon comprise the overall scent. The more I get a nose on the beer, the more I can detect the chili pepper presence. Alcohol presented slightly peppery with boozy presence.
Taste: Follows the nose very well. Molasses sweetness is present, along with a chocolate caramel toffee sweetness. It does have a rather sweet taste to the beer, reminding me of toasted brown sugar, with a dark fruit sweetness you taste in dates and figs. Cinnamon presence is noted on the back end, along with a subtle chili pepper heat. The alcohol is detectible on the taste, but well hidden considering the 12 abv.
Feel: Heavy in terms of body and weight with a chewy, oily consistency. Really enjoyble. Carbonation is moderate, giving the beer a smooth feel. A syrup-like coating coats the entirety of my mouth and tongue. Very nice.
Overall: I really enjoyed this beer. All the flavors compliment each other in a nice fashion, without being too pronounced. The sweetness of the beer really comes out as the beer warms, but chili pepper and cacao bitterness balances that out. ABV very well masked. Hats off to Evil Twin for making another tasty stout. I am grateful to have tried this lovely stout. Cheers!

I'm relatively new at the stout game, but this may be my favorite I've tried, even better than that goose island bourbon county stout i just had. This was an amazing mix of flavors without being too thick or syrupy. I hope they brew this again.

Plus just about black. Viscous and rich. Smells are soy sauce, burnt sugar, sake. Flavors are sweet, soy sauce, burnt sugar... Some strange flavors of sman Asian stir fry sauce. Body is soft, smooth, full. Different than your average Imperial Stout.
