16 oz can, not dated but beer shop just got this in.

Hops: Citra, but not sure what else

Smells amazing, very fruity. Taste is dank and juicy. Very low bitterness. Evil Twin has a million beers, and I lucked out by picking this one.

Tall can with some gibberish stamped on the bottom

Pours out with a medium haze, and delicate eggshell cap

ripe pineapple sniff

more pineapple on the palate, soft and delicate, but quite flavorful....delicious creation

We recently got CANs of this one at The FGBS & since I already had a deep delving into my Evil Twin CAN backlog planned anyway, it was an easy decision to pick this one up for The CANQuest (tm).

From the CAN: "India Pale Ale"; "Brewed for Evil Twin Brewing by Dorchester Brewing Company, Boston, MA".

I Crack!ed the CAN open, but I was curious as to how to CANduct the Glug - many reviews mention a haziness, but I strive for clarity. As such, I went with a nice, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass, but to no avail. Try as I might, the beer was pouring with a deep-haziness/light-cloudiness. I stopped what I was doing to perform an in-glass swirl that raised just over a finger of dense, rocky, bone-white head with good retention that left nice lacing in its wake. Color was a hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose reminded me of Free Will B.C.'s Cloudy With A Chance Of Charcuterie. That is to say, very juicy, with notes of citrus, tropical fruit and a tea-like earthiness. This is another of these New England-style AIPAs which I feel should be broken off into its own style. Mouthfeel was medium. As usual, I was struck by the inherent lack of bitterness in this burgeoning style. It had a very pronounced fruity sweetness, especially of tropical fruits, but I also got an earthiness, perhaps from the malt. I have to say, I was kind of underwhelmed by this one. It just did not meet the standards of the style. Finish was dry, more earthy than fruity, but just not my cuppa tea. Oh well.

Appearance: Pours with cloudy honey color and capped by a one inch head; wisps of lacing hang around

Smell: Papaya, kiwi and lime with a pithy element

Taste: Very bright, with the papaya, kiwi and lime flavors bursting; orange pith bitterness builds, through the middle, with a tingling bitter tone that lasts into the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: Although the beer is very bright, it lacks development of a fulsome fruit flavor

Reasonably fruity, the IPA made with soul borrows what's best about the New England styled IPA but without over embellishment. Reaching tepidly for west coast bitterness and dryness, this IPA hasn't exactly forgotten its roots either.

Evil Twin's Soul Made pours with a lighter golden straw color than we've become accustomed to, and with less of the absurd visual weight, the foggy ale crowns with a creamy, ivory, lacy foam cap. Bright aromas lead with citrus but has a under current of pale and under ripened tropical fruits. Softly herbal, the perfume of pine takes charge before the first sip of honey, light pastry and simple syrups gloss the tongue.

As the succulent ale washes the middle palate in fruit flavors, its sweetness begins to drift as its malt influence becomes less of an influence over balance as the ale rolls along. Sharp and lightly acidic with white grapefruit, tangerine and lemon, the classic citrus flavors take full command of the beer's demeanor, but a backdrop of guava, yuzu, agave, green pineapple, tart mango and light gooseberry add a glimmer of complexity and interest to the otherwise one dimensional hop profile. Softly herbal, a late palate of fresh grassiness and shaven pine extends into a bright green tea finish with a resinous bitterness that applies a moderately strong tone to close.

Medium bodied, the IPA is creamy early on the palate, suggesting something slightly meringue-like, but its attempt to dry late leads to a crisp, clean and refreshed palate. Finishing lightly peppery, herbal, sprucy and grassy, this is an IPA that has found a more moderate tone in bridging the gap between two extremes in trendy hop displays.

16oz can - so what is supposed to embue this offering with soul? Not asking for a friend.

This beer pours a hazy, medium apricot yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly eggshell white head, which leaves some sparse remote islet pattern lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, a strong chalkiness, some muddled domestic and tropical citrus rind, and plain leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, orange and white grapefruit citrus pith, a damp minerality, and more understated leafy, herbal, and piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-assuring frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and mostly smooth, with just a touch of hop astringency exacting a minor tithe at this point in the game. It finishes trending dry, the various hops and stoney character the order of the lingering day.

Overall - this comes across as an agreeable enough version of the IPA sub-style, made by someone with more than a passing familiarity with the New England hype. Crisp, and easy enough to put back (despite the extra 2 points of the ol' wowee sauce).

16 oz. can. Sedimenty pale orange. Smells of lemon soap and some orange zest. Tastes soapy, too. Lemon, pine, aggressive bitterness right up front. Or maybe my senses have been dulled by zero IBU IPAs and it seems like a lot of bitterness. Pine resiny back end with a lingering soapiness. Medium body. My wife didn't like it, which I can understand. At least it's not just juice, so I don't mind drinking it. Also, I have no idea how old this can is.

From the can it pours bright yellow gold color with a 1-2 finger white foamy head that was full of bubbles of all sizes, fading very slowly and leaving good spotty foamy lacing.

Smells of grapefruit juice, citrus hops, lemon zest, clementine, red grapefruit, citrus fruit, floral hops, peppercorn, soapy water, lime, wet cardboard, piney notes, weed and faint peppery spices. It smells like it was dry hopped with a mix of earthy notes and something that's kind of skunky.

Tastes pretty much like it smells with a strong citrus bitterness and flavors of grapefruit, lemon, clementine, tropical and/or citrus fruit, biscuit, lime, wet cardboard, dry floral hops, soapy water, piney notes, weed, tea leaf, pineapple, buttery bread and faint peppery spices. It starts off with strong citrus but turns spicy and full of earthy notes. All is good except for some odd flavor which I can't put my finger on.

Feel is thin and watery with very mellow carbonation, but the citrus is strong enough to cover up the 7% ABV. It's a good IPA that has moments of resembling a dry hopped IPA, but the feel and one odd note keep it only slightly above average in my view, perhaps because I always expect greatness from Evil Twin.

From the bottom of the can: "ETSM" then a bunch of test on top of itself.

Appearance: The beer is a cloudy orange with a medium white head with good retention and lacing.

Aroma: It has a fairly strong aroma of tangerines, grapefruit, mango, and pineapple skin.

Taste: It has a lot of mango flavor. There is only a touch of greenness to the beer in the shape of a bit of pineapple skin. Mostly it is just mango but it is a very pronounced mango flavor that tastes good.

Mouthfeel: It has a nice smooth mouthfeel with zero hop bite. Bitterness is low.

Overall: All-around this is an outstanding example of a New England IPA. It is a better example than most and it is competitive with some of the earlier leaders of the style. I would recommend seeking it out if you can and I would drink it again.

Medium hazy yellow, white head leaving very little lacy.

Pineapple, citrus and pale malt in the nose and on the palate.

Light-Medium mouthfeel. Soft, light tingly carbonation. Easy drinking.

Good but not great. Would have again but go out of my way to find.

16 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours moderately hazy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, passionfruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, lime, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, passionfruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, lime, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Mild pine, zesty, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, passionfruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, lime, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, fairly sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is a incredible NEIPA! All around out fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Great Galaxy/Simcoe showcase. Extremely juicy and lightly dank hops, with balanced bready malts. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Based on their Lost Souls recipe, but swapping out the Galaxy for Citra, in addition to Simcoe presumably... Pale gold body, faintly hazed; just a slim white head and modest lacing... Nice bright citrusy grapefruit and white wine and lime character... Tangy, somewhat dry, lean bitterness, very mild sweetness; pithy and taut... I'm a fan of Lost Souls, and I'm a fan of this one, too... Brewed by Dorchester Brewing... 11/13/17 canning...
