Motor oil; chocolate-covered coffee beans, big cranberry, deep vanilla, and a gentle fruity chili hum; Fig Newtons, stale coffee, leather, vague cocoa; clean with a gentle finish.

Nose is insanely deep - I could smell it for years; loads of tart fruit. And there’s deep cigar start that leads to brandy + a chocolate truffle end - nothing sticks out, very well integrated. No sign of 13%, either. Yet it’s low on vanilla + cocoa. As good as it is, still less than the sum of EMJ and Bible Belt.

12 oz. bottle, looks like the Prairie version

Appearance: Black as night, opaque with strong back light only showing ruby edges. Holds a thin collar of dark tan head that doesn't lace.

Aroma: Coffee grounds stirred into dark malt extract. There's a little hint of some complexity, a light chile pepper vegetal note, a spice, maybe cinnamon, maybe vanilla.

Taste: Sweet dark roasted malt, a bit of a Stout sour, some barrel toward the finish, the peppers come in for a touch of heat, the coffee kind of washes out a bit, which is surprising given the nose.

Mouthfeel: Medium heavy body, almost medium, low carbonation, oily, hot.

Overall: They took a big beer and said "MORE EVERYTHING". I can appreciate the banzai approach, but this is probably a little further over the top than it needed to be. There are lots of favors going on, so much that some just get lost. But hey, points for going big, I'm not going to water it down or anything, so I guess they shouldn't either.

Can @ home, possibly not too fresh, but with beers like this I don't consider that a problem. Jet black colour. Big dense brown head with short retention. Aroma's: roasted malts, coffee, some fruit (from the chillies I suppose). Retronasal the chillies are there, with some coffee/mocha, dark chocolate, roasted malts just light sweetness. Flavour is moderate sweet, roasted, with light bitterness. Alcohol feel is moderate considering the strength. Drinks deceptively easy as a matter of fact. Medium bodied. Just a hint of chili heat. Long finish with roast, cocoa and light bitterness.

16oz can received courtesy of bl00. My first from Evil Twin. Canned on October 9, 2017 per the stamp on the bottom.

Poured into an Iron Goat snifter, this was the color of night, with a big, creamy mocha colored head. Lots of lace.

Initially all I smelled was roasted malts and vanilla. The nose became more complex as it warmed.

Not as coffeeish as I was expecting, and the cacao nibs are a.bit restrained. The vanilla and peppers are up front, but they sort of cancel each other out. This tastes like a basic stout/porter's roasty, bitter, blast, with hints of coffee and cocoa, along with some molasses-type notes, but the coffee and cocoa flavors don't seem like something coming from the ballyhooed adjuncts. This tastes like a standard, non-imperial stout brewed with vanilla and chille peppers. Btw, there is absolutely NO sign of the high alcohol content.

A little thin bodied for such a big stout. Slightly watery mouthfeel.

A strange beer. Perfectly fine in flavor, yet with all the hyped adjuncts, I was expecting more of a big flavor bomb. I like it, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay a large sum for it to have it again, and I don't believe this one's exactly cheap. Thanks, Dan, for the chance at this!

Can: Poured a pitch-black stout with a dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of black chocolate, coffee, cacao and vanilla is quite enjoyable. Taste is a mix of cacao, light subtle roasted malt notes with lots of residual sugar notes and some vanilla, light tobacco notes with some coffee. Body is full with oily texture and good carbonation with subtle warming alcohol notes. Enjoyable with great mix of flavours but maybe tad too much residual sugar.

New Evil Twin CANned Beer Sunday (Week 692) may be closed, but I am not done! Not by a little bit, anyway. I got up early to attend our city's annual Memorial Day ceremony at the square & now, I am ready for another beer.

From the CAN: "Evil Twin.DK made by people who truly care[: Jeppe, Chase & Colin.] Brewed and CANned for Evil Twin Brewing at Westbrook Brewing Co, Mount Pleasant SC"; "A collaboration with ... Prairie Artisan Ales"; "Imperial Stout aged on Coffee, Vanilla, Chilies, and Cacao Nibs".

I was a little surprised when the tab fought me on the Crack! to open the vent, but I have encountered this sort of thing in the past. It finally let go with a resounding sound & I followed it up with a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. The head initially came up to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, light-brown head with excellent retention that began to form some nice lacing until I did a top-up. Color was stygian Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing ZERO light penetration. Nose smelled phenomenal! It was exactly as advertised - coffee, chocolate, vanilla and spice, all right there from the outset! Phew. If the taste measures up to the nose, I will have found a new winner. Mouthfeel was full & silky smooth on the tongue. The coffee and vanilla flavors dominated at the outset, but warming, chocolate & chilies began to become very assertive. It was much like a lot of the Mexican Chocolate Stouts that are currently available, but I liked that they did not go overboard with the chili heat. This was manageable for me where some have been more of a chore than a pleasant experience. Finish was dry, as you should expect from any beer that incorporates spices. It was not really hot, though, which may be a let-down for some. I really liked that the vanilla was also held in check as this was the third beer in two days that I have had from them that used it as an adjunct! A little vanilla goes a long way IMHO. YMMV.

Dark brown/black color with a tan two inch rapidly receding head. Some spotty lace.
Aroma of booze, chocolate, vanilla, and chilies.
Taste of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, late heat from the chilies.
A big-bodied sipping beer.

I cannot think of many other stouts that look as good as this one. Pours thick with a rich black color. A large mocha colored head forms and slowly settles. Heavy lacing is left down the glass. A lot is going on with the aroma but unfortunately it does not all go together. Chile and coffee are competing with vanilla, cacao, and roasted malt. No sign of alcohol. The alcohol is also well hidden in the flavor. All the ingredients work much better together in taste. A little warmth from chilies with a hint of coffee. Nice vanilla and chocolate flavors compliments the roasted malt. Seems to be a lot of yeast esters present. Thick and rich body. Smooth and full.

Lots of tobacco and chocolate. As it warmed, the boose on the nose came out more but it is very well hidden. Hard to believe this is running at 13%. Poured in tulip glass from can with date Dec 5, 2017. Quite delish!

Bought a can at the Beer Shop in East Longmeadow, MA. The beer pours with a black appearance and a dark brown head. Cocoa and cream milk aromas are strong with a hint of booze near the end. The beer has a little spice in the end with a thick chocolate flavor. Very creamy and silky. Overall, great mouthfeel and aromas.

I def enjoyed the original, and I've been waiting for a good time to crack this. First snowstorm of the year. Canned 11/08/17, slightly more than a year old

Pours a mocha colored thick frothy creamy head that hits 1 finger and sticks around forever, great retention, nice soapy lacing, and long legs, thick and dark as tar.

Nose plenty of vanilla and coffee, a bit of fresh roasted coffee and espresso, with a little raw cocoa, dark chocolate and creamy milk chocolate fudge, thick dark malts, little roast and caramel, faint chili pepper, and touch of marshmallowy nougat candy

Taste big thick rich creamy chocolate, cocoa, dark chocolate hot cocoa and a little fudgey, thick coffee espresso syrup like but not syrupy somehow, some vanilla, raw vanilla beans but less than the nose had, mild chili pepper as well but not much and no heat, perhaps a little ancho chili, vanilla ice cream and a touch of caramel, mild caramel and candy bar nougat like, but not too sweet, a tiny flash of alcohol late, very smooth and creamy

Mouth is fuller bod but not thick or syrupy, and not super heavy either, decent carb and almost no alcohol, a hint of chili pepper heat late on the back of the throat and tongue

Wow this was impressive, there is almost no alcohol presence despite 13% and not super thick syrupy and heavy which is usually the best way to hide the alcohol, vanilla was nice but could have been a bit more, and especially same with the chilies but then again it might be the age, nice cocoa and decent coffee, in general a really nice beer

Don't get much on the adjuncts, just big roast. And really dry for how strong it is, which isn't desirable imo. Not very good, though not offensive. Not recommended.
