7 April 2020 - Beer #69

Corona Day #26

Last beer before Passover!

Price: $19.99 at Quarry Wine and Spirits in Baltimore

Appearance: 5 - poured a very thick oily black into the glass, no red whatsoever. Dark head barely made an appearance but the alcohol legs are intense.

Nose: 5 - extremely sweet on the nose. Lots of bourbon and maple.

Taste: 4 - really tasty, just a bit too sweet. Can't really pick out the flavors because of the sweetness.

Mouth: 4 - not quite as thick as I expected, but super sticky.

Overall: 4 - a decadent dessert beer. See you all next Thursday night!

Cheers!

Next time I want to kill somebody with diabetes I will give them this beer. Plenty of flavor, not a bad bourbon barrel presence, but so much adjunct flavor we could wait until Easter for this to be acceptable to drink. Easter in 2029, maybe.

22oz bomber poured into a tulip glass. Wow this is a VERY sweet beer. I wasn’t expecting this. Very difficult to finish a glass. I guess this would be nice as a sipping desert beer in small quantities.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a coal black color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a quarter inch of creamy, tan-colored head that quickly dissipated. Not a whole lot of lacing.

S: An interesting aroma of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, maple syrup, malt, dark fruit, bourbon and wood.

T: Tasted of a moderate amount of malt (present throughout), some bourbon (and its accompanying barrel), a hint of maple syrup (less than expected), a good amount of dark fruit (figs, raisins), some dark chocolate, and a lot of coffee. Like the aroma of the flavor is oddly endearing. Pretty tasty stuff.

F: A fair amount of carbonation with a silky smooth finish. Medium- to full-bodied.

O: Not quite what I expected, but still a solid beer. Drinkable.

Deep brown color. Mild head, even with an aggressive pour. Smell is sweet and malty. Some coffee. Flavor was awesome. Coffee, vanilla, chocolate. Get a decent amount of barrel as it warms. Very sweet, but not cloying. This tasted like a coffee dessert. One of my favorite ET beers to date.
