330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, impenetrable for light. Moderate brown head. Strong roasty aroma, coffee, liquorice and leather, very good. Very roasty flavour, notes of strong coffee and plenty of liquorice, slightly salty finish. Dark chocolate in the aftertaste. The bitterness is not extreme - but that will change if Yin is mixed with double IPA Yang, as recommended.

Unknown vintage; drank 3/28/16 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

A violent pour yielded a nice dark khaki head; strong lace.

Blackberry, vanilla & mild booze heat notes in the nose.

Medium thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Blackberry & fresh earth flavors up front; dark red wine heat notes on the finish.

Robust RIS vibes here; harsh but nourishing. Not for pussies.

330ml can.

Black and oily. Big head that stays forever. Low and slow carbonation. Sticky lacing.

Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, cocoa and earthy hops.

Taste follows the nose with low sweetness and more bitter than other Evil Twin offerings like Jesus and Biscotti. Coffee and roasted malts are the main flavours. Theres a hoppy presence I'd like to know which hop it is.

Medium bodied, not so thick, goes down as silk though. Long bitter coffee aftertaste.

Great beer.

Apparently meant to be mixed with their "Yang" to create a black and tan. I'm not partial to black n' tans, so I'll be sipping this on its own. I suppose someday it might be interesting to try that, though.

Pours out an impenetrable viscous black, with a very nice fine-bubbled mocha-coloured head, which sticks around, thinly but consistently. Can't wait to dig in.

First whiff reveals a ton of chocolate and coffee. All the usual suspects really: brown sugar, molasses, dark chocolate, espresso, raisins, figs, maple syrup, licorice, etc. Very sweet, detecting very little of any hopping, which is fine by me. I'm an unapologetic malt-head. It's not the most complex imperial stout aroma, for me personally. But it still smells divine.

Taste is full on chocolate raisins and dark roast coffee. The first flavour I get though is a delicious vanilla creaminess, almost like craft cola. There's some soft spice like cinnamon, and also burnt toast with molasses. It's good. Again, not the most complex, but flavourful. Chocolate cake, with a mug of coffee.

Body is a solid middleweight, bordering on full but, imo, lacking that next level malty chewiness. Soft and warming though--no hard carbonation or aggressive hopping make this go down dangerously fast.

Very nice. I have better go-to imperial stouts available, but this is certainly no slouch.

I am rather inCANredulous at how many CANs of Evil Twin Brewing's beer I have acCANumulated for inclusion in The CANQuest (tm)! I had begun running through them at the end of New Beer Sunday (Week 677) & CANtinued my efforts yesterday during NBS (Week 678) so now I am simply finishing up. I have a couple/few days' worth left, but since my 53rd birthday is next Sunday (Week 679) & I have plans that may curtail my involvement that day, I am getting them in while I CAN.

From the CAN: "This is one half of a Black and Tan drink. Not just any Black and Tan but the one where a toasted smug and hoppy fella get together to make a sublime Taiji style balance. Mix the Yin & Yang together (or enjoy this profoundly evil Imperial Stout solo)."

I am sticking with each one solo, especially since it now seems that Yin & Yang exists as a separate beer. I would prefer to allow the brewery to mix the version that they envision.

The Crack! revealed a brimful craft CAN with nowhere for the tongue of the vent to go. As a result, I got both a light spritz & some mild foaming on the Crack! I then CANmenced a slow, gentle Glug, followed by an in-glass swirl that raised just over a finger of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with good retention. Color was Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing cola highlights only at the edges. Nose was rich, redolent with smoke, baker's chcolate and a general fudge smell. This smelled like liquefied dessert! Mouthfeel was big, thick, full & creamy, like a dollop had been scooped onto my tongue! I allowed it to simply roll around, warming as I did so. Man, loads of bittersweet baker's chocolate, a good bit of smoke & a sweet Lebanon bologna flavor were my reward(s) from this one. Fantastiche! Finish was dry, smoky, more bitter than sweet. Phew! Now, this begs the question - How why would you attempt a blend of this Yang on your own? I am all in favor of blended beers, but this would be a tough one to pull off. I am VERY curious to find a bottlle of Yin & Yang to see what their vision yeilds. In the meantime, tomorrow will see me going Yang as this episode winds down to its current CANclusion. Stay tuned!

A curious beer - very dark, mild carb with a thin dark brown head. Nose and taste reflect significant hop presence. Sweetness balances the bitterness with a bit of vanilla, some coffee hanging on as well.

Not bad! Wish I'd been able to pick this up with Yang as well.

Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) can into a conical pint glass; production information not evident.
A: Pour a near black color with a nearly one inch head, low to medium retention and soapy lacing.
S: Aromas of cocoa/mocha/coffee and molasses are present. Sweetness also evident.
T: Sweet. Palate follows the nose. Bitterness really adds to the overall flavor pallet.
M: Full bodied with solid carbonation.
O: Really a superior imperial stout. Really at or near the level of Guinness Foreign Extra. Cannot wait to try Yang.

It pours dark brown with a very small head. The aroma is of burnt grains and a very pleasant smokiness that is also featuring in the taste. Thck and chewable mouthfeel. This is a seriously fun stout.
