A- Love the name of this one....very original! The beer itself pours a rich motor oil brown/black color and it looks thick initially....there are some bronze hues when held up against the light....quite nice! The head on this one is a mocha coffee color and looks velvety upon inspection....it retains well and is rather dense in nature! Lacing is modest, with most of the foam sinking back into the brew rather quickly...above average overall!

S- Upon the first whiff, it is rich, deep and robust in aromas! Black French roast coffee, dark, heavily roasted malt that has hints of nutty sweetness blended into it, and along with this, there is some bakers chocolate and black cherrry....almost like black forest cake...with some boozeiness, and the finish is Earthy, balanced and surprisingly clean!

T- Semi Sweet dark chocolate with dark chocolate covered cordial cherry booziness and sweetness. Heavy black forest cake and dark ripe black cherry fruits....this is some of the best balanced beer that I've ever had! Deep French Roast coffee brewed with fresh vanilla pod is noted, creamy yeast, and a smooth nuttiness! Awesome!

M/O- Velvety smooooooth creaminess and solid medium-full body, this is simply gorgeous beer to drink! I cannot believe how well hidden the alcohol is in this one....it is impressive and a very highly drinkable stout!!! The best before date on the label suggested that this was to be enjoyed no later than 2015....it is 4 months into 2016 and I'm telling you, this is a proper vintage date....enjoy with black forest cake or cheesecake!......I would love to acquire more of this and have to give full marks to EvilTwin! Superb!!

Poured from 12oz bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: totally, completely black with a finger of dark brown, frothy, creamy foam. Outstanding.

Smell: big, sweet malt; dark fruit; deep roast and -- is that a little wood? Very good indeed.

Taste: roasty, sweet, deep and dark. Starts of with fruitiness, moves into a bit of alcohol heat and finishes with a great roastiness. There is a little bit of a lingering vegetal character but that is acceptable given its other hugenesses.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body but with a bit of a restrained carbonation and a decent creaminess, if a bit light considering this beer's otherwise plenty of heft.

Overall: I enjoy the heck out of this beer. A great example of the style.

Pitch black color with mocha head. Aroma has chocolate and some sweet spices. I get vanilla, cloves, cinnamon and some liquor. Taste starts sweet and slightly boozy. Finishes bitter and roasty, lingering in the aftertaste. I also get some hops in the aftertaste. Body is heavy and has medium carbonation. Quite good overall, just slightly boozy for my taste.

Pours nearly jet black with a almost non existent head atop.Aromas of buttery rum, bitter chocolate, and dark fruit.A flatter feel with flavors of dark fruit and bitter chocolate mainly, brash sweet alcohol in the finish.Eh not as good as I was hoping for but not awful.

Pours a black no light getting through this one even when held up to the lights. Head is two fingers of dark brown, almost coco colored but not quite dark enough, plenty of lacing left behind on my goblet.

Aroma is roasted malts, good chocolate aromas, light whiffs of dark fruit. Aroma is pretty good but seems little subdued for a big ass stout.

Taste is good roasted notes almost lightly burnt like bitterness to start, then the chocolate notes pick up and sweeten it out quite a bit until the finish. Finish is sweet chocolate malts with a god dose of tobacco like hop bitterness with some lingering herbal notes. Some lingering licorice in the finish also.noticed after it warmed up even more i guess.

Mouthfeel is almost approaching full but carbonation picks up some and seems to lighten the feel in the finish.

Overall a pretty solid big stout, not bad but the same can be had for half the price so see no reason to really purchase this one again.

On tap at Max's last night. Great name for a beer... as for the beer itself, maybe not so much.

The pours the expected blackish brown color with good head retention and lacing. On the nose, I get considerable coffee grounds, licorice and light dry citrus. The coffee ground flavor and licorice completely dominate the flavor profile, although I get some roasted malt and hoppy bitterness on the finish as well. It compltely dries this beer out on the finish, and as as result, the mouthfeel comes across as a bit thin. Alcohol is fairly well disguised, though you can tell it's up there.

While I thought this a decent effort (and possibly a beer that will improve with age), I didn't find it to be a particularly outstanding RIS. The mouthfeel in particular was a bit lacking, and the dry, hoppy, licorice infused finish just wasn't my cup of tea. Oh well...

Very similar to Founders Imperial Stout, lots of roasted malts and dark fruit.

Enjoyed on tap as part of the Darkside flight at Bruery Provisions. A decent stout but just OK for an imperial stout. Sheet of lace, dark appearance, OK drinkability.Lots of roast and burnt parts. Some chocolate, licorice, all combining for abundant sweetness.

L: Velvety, Motor oil black with thin coffee brown head. S: Has the ET stout smell that I still cannot place, chocolate, charred malts, a little dark fruit and tobacco. T: Dark roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate, charred malts, licorice, some dark fruit, tobacco and leather. Pleasantly bitter but not unpleasantly sharp. Long linger of coffee and malts and a little rum-ish heat. F: Medium mouthfeel with some weight, but not quite creamy or oily. Lighter than expected for a RIS. O: Excellent. A favorite.

The colour is extremely dark warm21 brown (100 EBC), the liquid is clear. The two finger head is warm brown and compact. Some lacing occurs.

The smell is sweet and very smooth. Some alcohol, roasted nuts and quite a lot of roasted malts. Dried fruits and red apples. A gentle touch of smoke in the background.

The taste is very sweet with growing notes of hot alcohol. Green plants and unripe fruits. Roasted malts; black coffee with sugar and dark chocolate plus a hint of plastic. Medium body. The aftertaste got intensive alcohol flavours, ice cream with dark chocolate and prunes. The finish is milder with cocoa and coffee.

The carbonation is strong, the long-lived bubbles are small and sharp. The liquid is thick and sticky.

Way to evident alcohol in this one. And a tad too sweet.
