Pours a dark brown color with a hint of red. The head is creamy, thick and tan, with splotches of little red spots that look like the bitters in a Manhattan cocktail. This eventually dissipates; the lace not as thick but retains well.
The aroma initially has hints of dark fruit. This is followed up by darkly toasted malts and a strong raw cocoa aroma.
The taste is quite unique. The malt flavors give it a medium to full mouthfeel. The malts are darkly toasted and border on roasted as if it were a porter or stout. There is some chocolate and malty sweetness, however, the hops almost dominate the palate in this one. They are piny and resinous and provide a moderate to heavy bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste. There is also the bitterness of raw cacao and dark chocolate.
I'm not an expert on the amber ale style, but this is certainly different from anything else I've had. Unlike other amber ales, this one, in keeping with Evil Twin's M.O., is slightly extreme, especially on the hops. Truly unique. I liked it a lot and cannot wait to have another one.

It pours a dark cloudy brown. A foamy one inch off-white head forms and slowly dies to a film coating the top of the pint. Sticky lacing clings around the sides of the nonic. The smell has the hops up front with some light caramel and nuts coming more so in as the beer warms. The taste takes all of the previously mentioned flavors and adds a nice clean sweetness with a tinge of alcohol. The mouthfeel is about a medium with a nice smooth creaminess surrounding the mouth and tongue. This is moderately drinkable. Overall, I like this and would come back to it.

Murky, dark amber color with beige head. Caramel and some earthy hops, sweet at first but gets pretty bitter in the finish and lingers in the aftertaste. Not bad but nothing really special.

This is a very good beer, but almost every aspect of it is out of style. Color is a few srm above max for a red ale, it´s deep brown. Smell is hoppy and a little bit malty, taste is hoppy as well, alcohol is higher than it should be, its a good and tasty beer, but not if you´re looking for a red ale.
