Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

I've had many, many cans of Imperial Biscotti Break - this can is a 2017, if I recall, and has been sitting on a shelf in my cellar for six or more months. Oops. It's a mess down there.

Imperial Biscotti Break pours a very deep brown, with a nice medium brown head of foam. Smells quite pleasant - coffee forward. The taste is all coffee and bits of almost and cocoa. There's something artificial about the adjuncts though - just tastes a bit odd/off. This is one of those dark beers that I've had my fill of after just a few sips.

It's a decent, reliable beer, but it hasn't changed my world in any particular ways. Good, but not great.

Brown booze nose and attack at first sip. The baked bicotti arrives with time and air. Coffee and cocoa all the time. Thin mouthfeel but tasty. I wasn’t sure I’d like this when I opened it but turned out to be great!

A delicious addition to my stout lineup. The name belies the character of the beer. I do not get biscotti from the taste or nose, but both taste and nose are wonderful. I love biscotti so perhaps its spirit has been captured. This beer is not a confection- it’s a stout through and through. Good body and mouth feel paired with 11.5% ABV makes for a powerful beer. Sold here in a 12 ounce snifter. Note: reviewing the standard release, not the barrel aged version. Having written this review at the bar, I’m about to order another. Cheers!

Compelled to add as an addendum that my last swig from the snifter had a wonderful biscotti flavor. As with many stouts, drink when it’s at room temperature to taste all flavors. As always ymmv.

Pours dark with a small amount of head, and the head disappears quick. Good coffee flavor with chocolate undertones. A tasty coffee stout that doesn't overdo the coffee flavor.
