Brewed by:
Evil Twin Brewing
New York, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Very good, but Doughnut Break is just a little better.

A- A great looking bold stout with a nice light brown head

S- Very delightful aromas of cocoa, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts

T- Taste was very complex, rich, bold and flavorful. Lots of tasty chocolate. Would pair well with a chocolate dessert. I drank it alone however. The beer upfront was sweet and delicious, however I am not a huge fan of coffee in my beers...I actually despise it (sorry, but that goes for Founders Breakfast Stout too...a great stout but can't get past the coffee taste). The rich, bitter taste of the coffee started to really pick up after the finish. Sweet, chocolate upfront, bitter coffee on the finish.

M- Not quite as thick as I would have guessed but still thick enough. Smooth with very little carbonation

O- This was given to me over the summer as a gift for my 30th birthday. I held on to it and got a sudden craving for something like this on this cool snowy late fall night. The night before Thanksgiving. Like I said, the coffee taste came through on the finish and really started creeping and staying on the palette the more I drank it. I had the whole 22 oz. bottle but would have been much more satisfied with just an 8 oz. pour. The first few sips were actually very pleasant. I rated this a bit higher as it was very good, minus the coffee...I guess I was hoping for something different but really, that coffee taste was inevitable... it was brewed with it!
