Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Total darkness, no light shines through. Maintains a tiny 1mm thick mocha head. Smell is a light bean coffee roast with subdued almond aromas. Taste is chocolate malt, almonds and a syrup-esque flavor, has a bready sweetness that finishes very clean for 11.5%. Nice.

22oz bottle, no date. Pours black with a small-sized brown head. Smells strongly of coffee and cocoa. Tastes of coffee, cocoa, almonds, and roasted malt. Medium body and above average carbonation. Overall, it's a pretty straightforward stout but the coffee and nuttiness is well done.

Pours a dark chocolate color with a mocha head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts and booze. Flavor is smooth with a bit of sweetness. You get notes of chocolate, roasted malts, a slight booziness and a biscotti like bready cookie flavor. Leaves a pleasant aftertaste of mocha. Overall really good beer

This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white to off white almost tan foamy head. A light spider web lacing roams in and around the glass nicely as the head dissipates.
The smell had a crisp cocoa bean revolving around light coffee tones. Light vanilla and warming boozy notes balance it out nicely.
The taste was mainly sweet backed up by a delicate roasty coffee effect. Vanilla seems to make a subtle presence and slides into the aftertaste along with the roasty coffee tones along in the finish.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a nice degree of sipping ability to it. Carbonation seems to run nice and low but hits enough to not let the feel become too syrupy (almost but not so).
Overall, for the most part, this is a pretty well made Double/Imperial Stout, the only thing that gets me is the price. $18? Whoah, wha, wha, wha, wha, whaaaauuuut? Really? Yeah, I don't think it's worth that much. Nice to try but most likely not coming back to.
