Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Pours very dark with minimal head, perhaps due to low carbonation as the mouthfeel is rather stagnant as well. In terms of flavor, I detected nothing that even hinted at the taste of biscotti, so biscotti-lovers who are considering snagging this beer simply because of the name/label beware. Overall, the palate followed the aroma: semi-sweet malts with a bitter undertone that for me, personally, did not impress. A decent imperial stout, in my opinion, but far from world class. One would be much better to try any of Evil Twins other imperial stouts or porters.

Jet black color. Poured like flat Coke. No lacing at all. Nose is vanilla, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate. Fantastic. Taste is not as nearly complex as I had expected. Finish is subtle bitter coffee and a touch of oak. Feel, to me, is a little thin for such a big beer. Overall, a very good, but not great, imperial stout.

Dark and intriguing. The nose is inviting- coffee, toffee, hints of the sweet things to come. Beautiful caramel malt and coffee, chocolate, toffee, toasted butter cookies.... Smooth, creamy, delicious.

Bomber served in a Teku.

Overall, this beer is very heavy on the chocolate notes. I was expected a lot of coffee based on the label, but didn't really get any. There is a bit on the nose and a touch of espresso in the finish but you really have to look for it. It is dominated by sweet milk chocolate on the nose and in the taste. It really is dessert in a glass. It is a tasty beer, but just not as advertised in my opinion.
