Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Pours a pretty awesome, chocolate brown tinged black. Head is about a finger and it is tan in color. Head leaves quickly and leaves very minimal lacing that chases the beer to the bottom of the glass...Aroma is bold, with notes of coffee, alcohol and semi-bitter chocolate (burns the nose ever so slightly). This beer coats the tongue and lingers for awhile before eventually heading down the gullet to its eventual demise.. Taste is big and bold, with notes of semi-bitter coffee, some chocolate and a little candy and malt. Also some fresh crystallized sugar is also present. Mouthfeel is good, thick and leaves a nice coating of a great blend of malt, sugar, coffee and chocolate. Overall, this one is a sipper, but balances quite well and has only minimal alcohol burn..

Pitch black and thin look to it. Alcohol and coffee jump into your nose, tastes very sweet with subtle roast character but nothing that really reminds me of biscotti. Over all its a good beer, nothing amazing...just good.

Pours midnight black and similar to motor oil with sticky lacing and thin layer of light brown foam.

Chocolate, coffee, oak, and vanilla.

HUGE coffee flavor, vanilla/cream, earthy hop bitterness, chocolate, and light oak.

Heavy-bodied, light carbonation, chewy, bitter, wonderful.

Overall, this certainly lived up to the hype.
