Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 12.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
A few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into the higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all -- it must taste rare!

One of my all time favorite non- barrel aged stouts. Perfection in what I'm after. Tan head, deep toasty hazelnuts and hop bitterness. Caramel malty deliciousness. One of the best base stouts to pour in a barrel!

Pint can

Pours jet opaque black, tan film for a head retains well. Eventually dissipates to a bit of lacing.

Aroma is of leather, tobacco, caramel, coffee, walnut and toast.

Flavor is rich, caramel, tobacco, toffee, chocolate, walnut, hints of maple syrup and vanilla, mesquite and wood bitterness.

Full viscous body, stinging carbonation on the tongue and booze warmth going down.

Phenomenally good, drinks smooth but packs a punch. A definite slow slipper but a must try for imperial stout fans. There are better imperial stouts, but not many.

L: Dark black, slight mocha head, cool can

S: A sweet smelling beer of dark fruit, chocolate, nuts, grapes, almost a dark chocolate wine smell

T: A blend of the smell but slightly bitter after taste, taste is sweet and sour, like a cheap chinese restaurant

F: Body is smooth and what I would expect for a beer of this style and ABV

O: Overall I am dissapointed with this beer, I had heard great things but upon tasting it was left very underwhelmed and wondering what the hype was for. Its taste is very sweet and not in a good way. Wish I would have liked it but sorry to say this beer will not be bought again by me.

12 oz. Bottle

Poured into a goblet a very nice black color, pretty nice carbonation, with a very quick fizzy tan head, which leaves a very nice medium size island, and some very minimal sticky lacing. The nose is malty, lots of chocolate/toffee notes, some vanilla. The taste is very nice malty, very nice chocolate/toffee notes, kinda roasty, slight vanilla, there is a nice sweetness about it. Full body, ABV hidden pretty well, a pretty complex brew. Overall, this is a very tasty brew.

Inky black, dense pour from a can. Drinks like its peers...nothing necessarily out of the ordinary here. A light coffee edge and some roundness to make it a satisfying, but not overwhelmingly tasty, beer.

Bought a 4-pack of 16 oz. cans at Whole Foods while over in Georgia.

Look: Black as the oil in my car when I was in HS and waited 20,000 miles to change it. Small, medium/dark-brown head.

Smell: Heavy dark malts, booze, dark chocolate aroma

Taste: Flavor packed. Immediately grabs hold of your taste buds and assaults them with a wonderful flavor. Sweet and savory

Feel: Very thick and syrupy, low carbonation, sticky residue.

Overall: Fantastic, a world-class imperial stout for sure.

Canned date unknown.
Reviewed 3/22/17.
Poured into tulip glass.

A: Jet black in the glass, no light coming through. Somewhat vigorous pour generated 2+ fingers of a deep brown, mocha colored head. Dissipated in about two minutes to a film. Alcohol legs as expected for 12% ABV.

S: Subdued chocolate notes, lots of roasted malts.

T: Taste follows the nose. This is a chocolate stout. Maybe some molasses, but mostly chocolate and malt. There is a fleeting hint of slightly burnt coffee as well.

M: Low carbonation, thick body. Almost syrupy. As far as the alcohol, it is not hidden as well as it could be. It's not painful to drink by any means, but you do get it on the back of the tongue and in the throat.

O: Good imperial stout, but it is fairly one dimensional unless you count the alcohol presence.

Pours into my glass looking like motor oil. Everything about this beer is on point . I'm confused when I read the other reviews. It's wonderfully executed. I would have never guessed this one checked in at 12%.

A - Pours a midnight black with a thin tan head. Light soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is roasted malts, molasses and light coffee.

T - The taste is molasses, brown sugar, dark chocolate, roasted malts and black licorice.

M - Full bodied with low carbonation. Syrupy mouthfeel with a sticky finish.

O - This is a big rich Imperial Stout. The flavors are on the sweet side making this a nice after dinner sipper.

Really an excellent and very strong stout. Coffee, licorice, some sweetness, a viscous feeling beer. Bitterness after the sweet.

A: Thick, black, dense, brown head.
S: Boozy, bitter, coffee
T: Coffee, licorice, sweet dark caramel.
M: Viscous, not chewy but.. there.
O: Excellent pay attention. Potential to be religious experience when drunk at the right moment.
