Dark brown in color. Tastes and smells like an above average, but boozy, black ale.

To some extent, I guess that this is the point of such a beer blend.

A: crystal clear; dark brown, but ruby accents visible through out; 1+ finger medium brown head that receded slowly to a thin cap; sheets of lacing;

S: deeply roasted grains; a little hop resin; a little smoke; a little bittersweet chocolate;

T: deeply roasted grains from start to finish; moderate bitterness on the finish; the ABV is noticeable at the end; a little burn on the swallow, but it fits the beer well;

M: medium to full bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: definitely feels like much more stout than IPA in spite of the reality; didn't get the complexity of flavor that I expected; it's still a really nice beer;

12oz bottle dated 9/16/14 poured into a pint glass
A: Very dark brown, almost black with a two-finger head that lingers
S: Chocolate malt, coffee, hop resin, a bit of cream. Given the blend, the stout definitely comes out more here
T: Here the IPA comes out more. Hoppy particularly pine and citrus oil. Followed by chocolate malt on the midpalate and a very bitter finish, almost too much so
M: The head is very creamy. Fairly full-bodied with a bitter bite
O: I would love to try making a black & tan with yin & yang and comparing it to this. As is I'd call if more of a black IPA than a true mixed black & tan, but still a very solid beer

From my favorite brewer. Pours almost black. Smells of smoke, sweet, sour with hints of liquorish. Taste is smoky, sweet skunk with a bitter malty finish. Feel is somewhat heavy but lightens up with the hoppy finish. Overall, I'm disappointed and hope that I got an old batch. I will revisit and pay attention to it's age.

Not a hung fan of stouts, I don't really taste the hops.

More stout on the nose with a solid feel and a slightly hoppy, almost spicy finish. Real interesting. Well done ET.

Bottle poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours deep mahogany brown with a frothy light brown head that hangs around for a while before settling and lacing very well.

S: Roasted malt, a little chocolate, some coffee, pine, maybe even a bit floral too, and a little caramel malt sweetness.

T: Roasted malt up front, coffee and a little bittersweet chocolate that comes out as it warms, followed by a big hop hit, loads of pine that lingers, maybe a little light citrusy grapefruit and caramel malt sweetness from the IPA side, plus some earthy burnt toast bitterness.

M: Pretty full body, moderate carbonation.

O: To sum it up in 1 word; intense. The first few sips are strong to say the least, massive bitterness that is damn near overwhelming. As it warms it mellows out and blends fairly well. At 10% + the strength of the flavors going on it can be a real kick in the face, but a hell of an experience.
