355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11.5%. Pitch black colour, small tan head. Aroma of roast malts, chocolate, molasses and oak, a hint of whiskey. The flavour is fairly sweet, with loads of molasses and chocolate, also roast malts, oak and whiskey. Moderate bitterness.

16oz can
Dark look, choco head. Smell is OK, almost bad at first, but there is a subtle dark chocolate cake thing happening, more booze and caramel as it warms. Almost too easy to drink and gets you properly lit up... this was the best of their big dark beers i sampled, BY FAR.. edmund fitzgerald imperial... THICK, almost no carbonation, tons of brown sugar and chocolate fudge and it has that long twisting complex end like a fine cigar or whisky... the dark fruit and smoke i usually hate is wrapped up into the main beer proper, unifying with the slight booze, touch of licorise, anise, and hint of coffee
Way better than expected

-ebony bottle pour with a thin foam ring and an aroma of anise and chocolate malt. The flavors include toasted malt, licorice, espresso and molasses. It is very sweet. The finish is slick. This is richly flavored, but dessert-like for an ale.

Black and silky with brown/ruby creamy head. Smoky, chocolately aroma, hints of oak barrel. Some alcohol warmth is apparent in the aroma as well. Taste is dark and smoky, chocolate, extremely smooth, yet sharp at the same time. Nice!

Pours almost black. Thick tan head which dissipates slowly.
Sweet Mocha coffee aroma. Brown bread. Mixed peel and dried fruit soaked in dark rum.
Taste as it smells. Prunes and figs apparent. Demi-sec with a warming finish.
Beautifully smooth and well balanced.
A wonderful porter.

A 12oz bottle with a bottling date of Feb 2014, so I've held on to this one for a while. I hope it has held up. Acquired from the Brewdog webshop ages ago.
A: Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A very dark brown that appears utterly black in the glass. Produces a small head of creamy coffee-coloured foam that quickly subsides to a persistent collar.
S: Aroma of rich, dark malt with hints of roasted grain, dried fruit, prunes, figs, molasses, brown sugar, subtle chocolate, a touch of coffee, fruity ale yeast and a warming whiff of booze in the background. Mildly oxidised but this doesn't impinge on the character. Impressively complex.
T: Tastes of dark, fruity malt with notes of dried fruit, prunes, figs, fruit cake, molasses, brown sugar, mild roasted grain, chocolate, subtle coffee, ale yeast esters and a touch of alcohol. Slightly oxidised. A robust, malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing, though this is attenuted by the beer's significant sweetness.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, rich and creamy, with soft carbonation and great body. Envelops the palate like velvet, however it is also quite astringent. Aftertaste of bitter roasted malt, fruity sweetness, ale yeast and a hint of booze.
O: An impressive imperial porter, though not the greatest beer I've sampled. Perhaps it's a tad old or maybe I just find it too sweet. It looks great, while the aroma and flavour are replete with notes of dark fruity malt, brown sugar, ale yeast and alcohol. Excellent body. Lightly oxidised but this doesn't really detract from the character. A beast of a beer; definitely one to sample if you like 'em big and boozy.
