Style: German Pilsener
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%
Availability: Year-round
Notes / Commercial Description:
A clever woman once said; ‘fair is foul and foul is fair’. On that note we threw in a young, unacknowledged hoppy pilsner gave it a limp, wrinkly flavor and finished it off with an insulting high price that will give you a foul feeling in your mouth. That’s why we name Evil Twin Brewing’s Low Life the Golddigger of Beers.

from a can to a pilsner glass
look; pale yellow sunburst, a hint of reddish orange towards the center, very bubbly. 1" white head that fades and leaves a thin covering and lacing
smell; herbal hops, yeasty, a little grassy, a little fruity, hint of honey malt and noble hops
taste; herbal tea, herbal hops, hint of classic noble hops and pilsner malt, a little grass, a little sugar, pretty good combination
feel; carbonated but smooth, a little malty, medium bodied feel which isn't heavy but feels a little heavier than it tastes
overall; very nice, drinkable, interesting, i like their descriptions on their bottles and cans, a must read.

Crisp, Grainy, Hoppy, Bready
Bright golden, with a massive creamy head and a deep, grainy nose. Very crisp with prickly carbonation. The aroma is floral with a soft hoppiness, a bit of rind, browned apple and herbal spice. Light sweetness with a dry, bready finish and biscuity grain linger. Low Life isn't what you'd expect from a Pils. Refreshingly odd and hoppy.
As reviewed in BeerAdvocate magazine #110 (March 2016).

Beer pours a clear gold colour, very typical Pilsner look. The smell is like earthy hops and not much else, very timid aroma. The beer tastes crisp, slightly sweet, earthy hops, and overall clean taste. Light-bodied. Kind of tastes like a hybrid between a Pilsner and a Pale ale
Sessionable.
Would I buy it again? Yes.

A: Brilliant gold with a 2” bone white finely bubbled foam collar that drops to 1”.
S: flowery hops, very low background DMS, clean, no fruity esters, no diacetyl
T: malty graham cracker palate crisp dry finish, some light sugar in the background behind the malts
F: Creamy, light medium body, medium to medium high carbonation
O: Much more satisfying than a standard industrial lager.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a chalice.
Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Moderate amount of bubbles and about one finger of white head that settles into a thin patchy layer.
Smell: A crisp and bready malt forward aroma with a scent of biscuit, cracker, and floral hops. Bready malt hints of biscuit, grains, cracker, and lager yeast. Floral and spicy Noble hops along with a little grass. Subtle fruit hints. A pretty solid Pils aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a bready and crisp malt driven taste with notes of biscuit, cracker, and floral hops. Pale malt with bready notes of biscuit, cracker, grains, straw, and lager yeast. Spicy and floral Noble hop notes. Also a little grass and subtle citrus. A solid balanced Pils taste.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, creamy, and fairly drying on the finish.
Overall: A pretty solid take on a Pilsner. Good balance of bready malt and spicy Euro hops.

A clear, bright gold, Low Life's pure white head reaches a finger and sits fluffy on top, fading after time to a creamy foam and depositing nicely thick patching as it goes.
The smell is soft but nice, very bright and clean, with plenty of Saaz hops, though it seems to be hopped more to the Czech than the German standard. Still, it's not too soft.
The taste is the same, with a gentle malty sweetness up front and a base consisting of floral and lightly herbal hops bitterness. Dryness from a grassier character comes out underneath.
Light, crisp and refreshing, as one would hope for with this style, it's nonetheless consistent and deep. The carbonation is a bit high, but it doesn't overwhelm too much.

12oz bottle, day 23 of the 2013 Craft Beer Advent calendar. Another brew from Evil Twin constructed in Stratford, CT.
This beer pours a hazy medium golden straw hue, with a teeming tower of (are we sure this wasn't brewed at DeProef?) rather puffy, thinly foamy, and ultimately frothy bone-white head, which leaves some decent (or not?) hanging garter belt lace around the glass as it slowly bleeds away.
It smells of prominent grassy, leafy hops, floral clover honey, grainy, slightly biscuity pale malt, and a subtle dry yeastiness. The taste is sharply bitter grassy, kind of metallic noble hops, gritty crackery pale malt, semi-tart lemon peel, a touch of flinty stoniness, and some weird additional natural sweet earthy tones.
The bubbles are, as already noted, big and overwrought out of the gate, and linger deeply until they eventually settle to a dull hum on the tongue, right at the point before another top-up is required, natch, the body on the light side of medium weight, and a tad too astringent from fizz and hop alike to be deemed anywhere near smooth. It finishes on a drying trend, the malt waning, while the acerbic hops and yeast gear up for a final run at my upper palate.
Well, what we have here is a German Pils, via Belgium's 'finest' yeastmeisters, spit out by a Danish recipe in coastal Connecticut. WTF? Globalization has its merits, as does collaboration and cooperation, but this all seems to be taking it all a step or ten too far, in concept marketing (our beer sucks, and all that), and in geography.
