A clever woman once said; ‘fair is foul and foul is fair’. On that note we threw in a young, unacknowledged hoppy pilsner gave it a limp, wrinkly flavor and finished it off with an insulting high price that will give you a foul feeling in your mouth. That’s why we name Evil Twin Brewing’s Low Life the Golddigger of Beers.

355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Surprisingly moderate aroma of grain and dust, only a hint of hops. The dry flavour is fairly well hopped, and the malty base is sufficient. Medium bitter finish.

Served in a teku glass.

Appearance: Light semi hazy Amber with a white head rising half a fingers length.

Smell: Malt aroma which dissipates quickly.

Taste: Smooth bitter feel which feels a bit like a light west coast IPA.

Mouth: Medium bubbles to the body creating a soft to crisp carbonation. Sticky after taste but don't expect it to be super sticky.

Overall: Very good brew, especially on this hot summer day. Salud!

Pale amber in colour, slightly cloudy, smallish head, medium to soft carbonation. Floral hops aroma. Slight bitterness in the hops and medium maltiness, medium body. Smooth slightly dry mouthfeel. Refreshing. Excellent subtlety of a great pilsner. Best pilsner outside of Germany or Czech Republic I have tried. Often craft breweries over hop lagers but this is well balanced.

It is shaping up to be an interesting day! I am to be interviewed for a documentary later and then the local homebrew club is having a soiree this evening. In the meantime, there is work to be done for The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "A clever woman once said; ‘fair is foul and foul is fair’. On that note we threw in a young, unacknowledged hoppy pilsner gave it a limp, wrinkly flavor and finished it off with an insulting high price that will give you a foul feeling in your mouth. That’s why we name Evil Twin Brewing’s Low Life the Golddigger of Beers."

The Crack! was rather exciting as it revealed a brimful craft CAN, leading to some foaming through the vent. I immediately CANmenced emergency Glug procedures to alleviate the problem, causing the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, soapy, eggshell-white head with very good retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose was very bready, slightly yeasty with a Noble hops bite that rendered it interesting, at least. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but definitely big for the style. The taste was very grassy & hay-like, more towards a Czech Pils, IMHO. Still, that is not really a CANplaint as I prefer my Pils to have some bite, rather than being entirely malty. I really found myself enjoying this one, although I CANnot remember what I paid for it. If it was a reasonable cost, it would be great in my Summer cooler, but given the brewery, I CAN imagine that it was spendy. Finish was actually pretty dry, mostly thanks to the hops. It was lightly bready, but not enough to offset the inherent dryness.
