This appears flat with no head but a decent film in a Kilkenny pint glass. It is nearly black with dark brown highlights and conjures thick syrup.

The aroma is strong with fusil alcohol. Deep roasted malt is almost burnt, with chocolate syrup, molasses, and toffee. Quite sweet.

Sweetness prevails in the flavor against a background of roasted malt that gains bitterness from entry through the middle and finish. Charcoal lends a smoky flavor while molasses and burnt malt live long into the finish. Roast malts accumulate in the finish that never ends.

The body is full, almost dense with a hard, smooth texture. It is a touch syrupy and the alcohol is a primary player barely controlled. Carbonation is soft and almost flat.

Sweetness seems to be far out of balance until the finish. This is clearly a Porter in the sense that one knows Porter when ones tastes it.

I actually really enjoyed the taste of this one. My biggest complaint is (my bottle at least) has very little carbonation, almost completely flat. Booooo!

A: The beer is black when viewed from afar but when held up to a bright light the beer is clear and very dark red in color with a moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a short beige head that quickly died down, leaving a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of burnt malts and molasses are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of burnt and roasted malts along with notes of molasses. There is a slight amount of bitterness and the flavors of molasses linger into the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: Considering its strength, this beer is quite drinkable as any traces of alcohol are very well hidden from the taste.
