Thanks to AtlCarl, a man who schlepps beer around the country for me, for this one. 22 oz. bottle split with my wife.

Before the pour, one must admire the artwork on the label, which I'll admit made me smirk. The pour is a cloudy hybrid of peach & pink, with a lively amount of carbonation. Nose is weaker than expected, I have to inhale several units of oxygen to detect a vague fruitiness &, maybe, wheat. Not much coming on.

Justin Blaeber is as bright & bouncy as its namesake. The weiss is on top, a nice shiny, tartness driving the beer. The blueberries aren't overt, but hang around the middle, & they're muted by the tart bite. Fizzy & light on the tongue, & it's disappearing at a rapid rate from my glass.

I would have liked a bit more on the blueberry end; as is, this is a pretty standard berliner with a touch of berry added. Pretty good beer.

Poured a cloudy pink with minimal head and lace but lots of carbonation. A strong blueberry aroma with some tart and sour notes as well. I find the beer to have a good balance between sharp sourness and lively carbonation and both funky and tart blueberries, although I must add the blueberries give off a touch of sweetness at times. Easy to drink with a light body, I've not had too many beers of this style but this one is a keeper.

650ml bottled poured into an Evil Twin Tørst Wine Glass.

The beer pours a light apricot color, hues of orange and light amber, hazy complexion with a fizzy head, pinkish white color, that rises about 2 fingers high out of the beer and dissipates quickly leaving no behind. The aroma is nice, lots of tart blueberry, a little funk, straw, lemons, and some lactic sour qualities. Nice blueberry character on the tongue, strawberries are there too, with some light funk, straw and mineral qualities with a bit of citrus that is tart and just a bit sour. The body is lively, lots of carbonation, a bit juicy, that finishes lightly dry.

Verdict: Very nice Berliner from Evil Twin, one of the better examples of a Berliner with fruit. The Blueberry comes across nicely, a great summer beer.

On tap at Appalachian Vintner, Asheville NC

A- pours a hazy peach color with a small rapidly vanishing head, that leaves just a ring around the edges

S- light and fruity with citrus notes and blueberry

T- light, tart and fruity, notes of peach and blueberry. Finish is astringent and bone dry, crisp wheat linger

M- light body with moderate, fizzy carbonation. Crisp and refreshing finish

O- my first of the style, very fruity and refreshing, just enough tartness to make it go down fast

A. It has a redish, orange color with a pinkish hue (looks like Iced Tea). It has a small white bubbly head with limited lacing. Opaque

S. Very mild malt and metallic scent.

T/M. It tastes like a lambic iced tea. It is quite carbonated and zesty, leaves a tingle on the tongue. Orange and grape with a hint of lemon. A good deal tart.

O. It's basically a beer version of grapefruit juice. I'ts descent, but you really have to be in the mood for it.

A: Poured from a bottle to a goblet. Had a brownish color and a cloudy consistency. There was a small amount of head that quickly dissipated. Not much lacing.

S: A sweet, fruity aroma (the blueberries), and a good amount of malt.

T: Tasted of malt, light hops, salt, and the advertised blueberries. While the blueberries weren't quite as powerful as I expected, this was a lively, well done flavor.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a sharp, prickly finish. Medium-bodied.

O: On the whole, this is an interesting, well made take on the Berliner Weissbier style. Definitely drinkable.

Foggy, glowing reddish peach color with a very small, fleeting white head. Smell is plenty of blueberry juice tartness and freshly cracked grain. Increased fruity tartness in the mouth, but far from any sort of artificial or cloying characteristics. Blueberries, gentle acidity, and a long, fresh grainy finish. Dry, clean, mineral, and puckering in the mouth. Seems to me like the base beer would hold up as a good Berliner on its own. Pretty simple, but it stays away from being a one note wonder with a pleasant complimentary grainy wheat component. Nicely done...wish it wasn't so damn expensive.

A: Red-orange in color, nice white head. Not much for lace.

S: Aroma immediately reminds me of Founder's Cerise but with blueberry. And that is one of my favorite fruit beers. This beer however smells very nice. Sweet berries, fresh cracked malts, tangy fruit, and mouthwatering in general.

T: Flavor is delightfully blueberry, tangy and sour, malty fresh, and endlessly swirlable. Very nice.

M: Soft and delicate yet sharp with sour and bitter pointiness. Slick texture and well carbonated. A touch of syrup.

O: Pretty awesome. More would be very welcome.

bottle picked up locally. enjoyed from a Tørst wine glass.

a - poured a rather attractive peach orange with a darker core. the head was pink and fizzy and gone quick leaving sparse remains.

s - wow. smell is really solid. berry-er-ific. blackberry, blueberry, really nice...

t - HOLY MOLY!!! taste. is. great! like berry soda...super refreshing.

m - medium bodied and a bit heavier than i'm used to for a berliner, but it really works for this beer. like grape soda but a bit less fizzy. SUPER easy drinking.

o - i'll be honest, i got this because it made me laugh when i first heard about it and as a label collector, this one is a MUST have. that being said, who would've guessed that the contents would be so spot on. really well done for my tastes. thanks to evil twin for killing it on the inside and on the outside on this one.

A: Pours a lightly hazy pale pinkish yellow initially that turns a reddish brown as the carbonation settles down, the beer has a moderate to heavy amount of fine visible carbonation and some purple highlights. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy pinkish white head that reduces to a couple of very small patch of very thin film along with a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas of tart blueberries along with some faint hints of vinegar. Very light aromas of funkiness.

T: There are moderate flavors of tart blueberries with some light hints of lactic acid and funkiness.

M: Light bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Slight amounts of acidic prickliness.

O: Overall I found this beer to be pretty light and refreshing - as a big fan of the Berliner Weissbier, I would gladly have this one again. Blueberry is a good seasonal fruit for the addition to the style.

22oz bomber (The Westbrook version) care of JISurfer (many thanks man!) poured into a Mikkeller teku. The brew pours a clouded pink color with a white finger of fluff that slowly fades supported by rising bubbles. As the cap fades, it leaves a stringy web of lace on the glass.

The aroma is nothing short of gorgeous. Bright fruity berries mixed with a lemony lactic and greek yogurt note. A hint of cereal-like grain and wheat almost makes for a scent like fruity pebbles cereal. As the nose opens up, it increases with a seedy blueberry note that is strikingly more pungent than I expected but very much natural and super enjoyable.

The taste is tart with a not so identifiable berry flavor that blends through the mouth and really resonates in the aftertaste. Notes of mild lemon zest, greek yogurt and a bit of wheat sweetness is present to contrast. This is bright and fruity with enough wheat and tartness to keep it flowing and interesting.

Light bodied and lively carbonated but not quite effervescent. This is one of the most blueberry forward brews I have had in a long time. It is downright crushable as far as drinkability goes. As far as berliners go, this one at times feels a bit watery. However, it is a perfect summertime offering that (i am nitpicking here) could use a bit more tartness. Regardless, I enjoyed the grain backing and how clean this was. I want more...

Pours a pinkish-blue with a loose finger of white head.

The nose is almost completely dominated by bright, fruity blueberries. A touch of fruity wheat esters come in as well but they are buried beneath the blueberries.

It's packed with juicy blueberries upfront. The midpalate is also loaded with blueberries but fruity wheat esters also begin to come through. Late midpalate raw, grassy wheat tempers the fruitiness and provides the perfect transition into the tart and extremely refreshing finish.

The mouthfeel is light and super refreshing.

This is an incredible beer. It's vibrant, bright and exciting. The blueberries zip around the palate and the wheat helps to balance this juiciness, stopping it from becoming overly fruity. The tartness in the back is gentle and gradual, not too sharp. It's so refreshing. I wish I could drink this all summer. I need to buy more.

Evi22oz bottle into a tulip
No bottle dating

A: Pours a pinkish-orange, almost like the color of a grapefruit. Its hazy to the point of being completely opaque. 1/2 a fingers width of pink tinged off white head dissipates almost instantaneously and leaves zero lacing.

S: Berry-lisicous. Blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. There is also a very prominent wheat component and some hay.

T: Tons of wheat up front, and lingering long into the aftertaste. There is a small degree of lactic tartness, but not much. Blueberry and raspberry characters round out the palate profile. Pretty nice.

M/D: Medium bodied, at first the carbonation seems on the lower side of things, but it actually holds up nicely. Drinkability is good.

O: Im not hugely into the style, but this is almost certainly the best one Ive had. Im still waiting for one with the big sourness that I hear about. Anyways, Id def drink this one again, which is actually a pretty high compliment for me when talking about a Berliner Weisse.

From 06/01/13 notes. Bought a bottle of this at Tørst in Brooklyn, NY, had about 8oz of the bottle. I previously had 2 sample of this up at EBF in March, but glad to have it again and give it a proper review.

a - Pours a deep reddish-brown color with one inch of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of sour blueberries, vinegar, sour red wine, sour dark fruits, berries, oak, fruity malts, and some light funk in the end. The nose is fantastic on this beer; very fresh and strong, and a ton of awesome sour blueberries and dark fruit. The light funk also adds to it. Top notch.

t - Tastes same sour blueberries, vinegar, tannic, oak, musty notes, earthy notes, and sour red wine. I like the taste, but it is much weaker than the nose and seems like a watered down version of what the nose promised. Still a good taste, it's just that the nose is great.

m - Lighter bodied beer and low carbonation. A little acedic, and pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall this is certainly a good berliner, and one of the better Evil Twin beers that I've had. I think the nose is fantastic; super sour, super fresh, and some light funk adding complexity. It might sound like I didn't like the taste which is not the case; the taste is good, it's just that after the nose this beer had I was hoping for it to be a little more flavorful. Easy to drink, definitely worth checking out if you can get a bottle, and I'd certainly have it again.

Bottle at torst

Light pink head. Color is a red grape purple. Very nice.

Flavors of tart blueberries and light acidity. Wine barrel flavors. Sour and tart. A bit funky. Ends with a touch of medicinal flavor.

Mouthfeel: bubbly and clean. Light bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Ends very clean.

Overall, this was a really great Berliner. Very easy to drink with the right amount of tartness.

On-tap at Tørst in NYC, served in a large wine glass.

A- Pours a dark, opaque blueberry/purple color, has a nice inch of pinkish head, which has great retention and leaves a lot of delicate lacing. It looks awesome.

S- Has a subtle aroma of blueberry flesh, which really starts to come out as the beer warms, there's also a very nice earthy funk, oak and wheat. The aroma is very nice and pretty complex for a Berliner.

T- Tastes great, the tartness is moderate to high, spot-on for a Berliner, mostly lactic acid with a hint of acetic, finishes with a lingering flavor of blueberry skins and juice.

M- Light-bodied, with a tart, dry feel.

O- I was really impressed by this. I had this just a few days after Hunahpu Day, where I tried a lot of great Berliners from Funky Buddha, and this beer is definitely on par with a lot of the best Florida Berliners. I had only had big stouts from Evil Twin before, so it was also cool to see Jeppe do such a different style and to totally nail it. This is a great beer, definitely seek this out.
