22oz bottle, a bit of a confusing runabout to nail down which version of the 'Femme Fatale' this one was.

This beer pours a slightly cloudy, medium tarnished golden amber colour, with two hefty fingers of puffy, chunky, and faintly creamy dirty white head, which leaves some pockmarked concrete wall lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of fairly funky and cheesy, well, bacteria, I guess, the Brettanomyces not exactly a yeast strain, now, with some strongly fruity orange and Texas red grapefruit, pineapple core, gooseberries, white wine lees, grainy pale malt, and further herbal, weedy, and floral hop bitters. The taste kicks off with a bready, lightly doughy pale graininess, sharp grassy, leafy, and red berry-forward fruity hop esters, a hovering on my upper palate musty funkiness, one now mostly stripped of its stinky cheese character, a steady sort of tropical fruit character (pineapple and white grapes), and more herbal, wet hay-like hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly thorough in its probing frothiness, the body an adequate middleweight, and kind of hamstrung by funk and hop alike in its sad attempt at smoothness. It finishes just off-dry, both of the aforementioned hedonists pushing out the malt and fruit like 'twas no big thing.

Yeah, the Nelson Sauvin hop varietal and that Brett dude make for some interesting, if not particularly welcoming bedfellows - bitter, funky, and fruity, you never really know what you're going to get on the next gulp (ok, sure, at least a little o' the funk). Since I have no other touchstone for this little beer science project, I revert to my abolitionist stance - why fuck with a perfectly good IPA by dosing it with 'wild' yeast? Right, because you can.

Sampled at a tasting. Pale yellow pour, hazy, with a white head. Smells of brett, farmhouse funk, peaches. Tastes like brett, aspirin, funk. Dry, with a medium body.
