Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours pitch black with only a thin light brown ring of foam around the glass leaving light lacing. Rich aroma of toasted malt, molasses, coffee and chocolate; hints of smoke and vanilla. Flavor follows, dominated by toasted, slightly charred malt, chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Finishes with a light bitterness and residual woodiness, hints of smoke and charred coffee. Nice medium to heavy bodied with mild creaminess. Finish leans towards the dryer maltiness of a foreign export, but retains the richness of flavor of an imperial stout. Quite nicely done.

Poured into a Syndikatet tulip-ish glass...

A: Glossy black; 1/2-finger sandy head of loose foam; no lace; minimal retention.

S: Dark chocolate; cookies; crusty brownies; roast malt; weird / artificial malt (sweet); almonds; peat smoke.

T: Sweet malt; chocolate syrup; coffee; darkness.

M: Full body; moderate carbonation.

O: A big, chewy, roasty stout - probably wouldn’t have again, though; a definite sipper.

From 06/01/13 notes. Had an 8 oz. pour of this on tap at Tørst in Brooklyn, NY.

a - Pours a deep, dark brown, almost black color, with one inch of dark tan head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks like a great big stout.

s - Smells of roasted malts, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, coffee, and light vanilla. Very nice nose...light in every aspect but a lot going on here.

t - Tastes of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, toasted notes, sweet dark fruits, and light vanilla. Taste has more coffee than the nose, a slight step up for me.

m - Thick, full bodied stout with low carbonation. Body is thick, smooth, and chewy, and doesn't feel like 10% ABV at all. Excellent mouthfeel, best part of the beer.

o - Overall another really good stout from Evil Twin...they really know how to make them. I like IBB and AMCJ better than this, but it is another great coffee stout with an amazing mouthfeel. Would definitely order it again.

11.2oz bottle into a snifter
no bottling dates

Thanks to jsteel2 for sending this one over as an extra!

A: Opaque black with 1 fingers width of tan colored head, which dissipates down fairly quickly and leaves only a few small patches of lacing.

S: Big roasty, tobacco, and leather notes. Ash, a bit of cocoa and coffee.

T: Tons of leather notes, tobacco, roasted malt, cream, subtle chocolate and coffee.

M/D: Full bodied, a bit chewy, appropriately low carbonation, good smoothness, ABV well restrained and drinkability is good.

O: Another good IS from Evil Twin, this one reminds me a lot of Mini Growler, except I remember Mini Growler being a little better. Either way, certainly worth a try, but ET has many other IS's that I prefer to this one.

Served from bottle into a Westbrook snifter (semi-proper!). Poured a massively dark brown (almost black) with a one finger light tan head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, coffee, earth, roasted malt, dark chocolate, and subtle dark fruit. The flavor was of roasted malt, earth, coffee, and dark chocolate. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a good brew. The aroma on this one was definitely the highlight of this one with a really nice note of dark chocolate and coffee going on here with just a kiss of sweetness. However, on the flavor it was quite roasty and toasty. This was just a touch overwhelming for my palate as there was no real balance aspect going on at all. Really wish there would have been a touch of sweetness to help make this one much more easy to drink. But it has to be said, that you would not think this one was 10% by aroma or flavor alone. Definitely worth your time trying if you have not done so already.

This beer, as a dark beer, ironically is very refreshing. It has a perfect body, tastes like pure roasted malts (reminiscent of fresh dark grains from the homebrew shop)

Appearance: dark as can be, pleasantly opaque

smell: slight at first, sweet and vanillaesque on the finish

taste: a bomb of great fresh toffees, smoked/roasted malts. But all amongst a pleasantly balanced body.

Lingers in a perfect way. this beer needs nothing more.

Poured from bottle into my snifter.

A – Poured out jet black, no light to see. Just a tiny bit of creamy tan head that quickly disappears.

S – Big malts, roasted coffee, toffee and vanilla all in the nose. Bit of smokiness as well.

T – Well just like the nose this is a massively malty brew. Malts all over this with roasted malt up front followed by a burned malt flavor at the end. Lot of smoky, charcoal grill taste. Tons of chocolate but not overtly sweet as it is much more bitter of a flavor. Toffee and vanilla play but lightly. Coffee again like the nose. Has a bitter bite at the end.

M – Full bodied all the way. Creamy across the palate. You can feel the ABV run right down your throat with each sip.

O – This certainly is a big, complex beer. It has some great flavors that mix well and it just gets better as it warms up. Much more bitter then I would have thought for a double but it is a great, easy drinking brew.

Brewed at De Molen, distributed by 12 percent

The beer pours an inky black with a razor thin tan halo of head that fades. The nose is a tad metallic and boozy, sweet/grainy, with a touch fruity. The taste presents as I'd expected with full bodied rich chocolate, coffee, and malty sweet (but not overly sweet/cloying like the Jesus series), a touch of booze, and relatively no bitterness. The mouthfeel is full bodied with bold stout flavors, masked ethanol, drier than expected finish (but still sticky like sweet caramel), no carbonation, and has very little bitterness. This definitely would be well served at cellar temp. Overall, this is pretty tasty beer, albeit over priced very similar beer to all the other ET stouts I've had, but may not be a "repeat" this summer (unless temperatures dip low again like they have been).

On-tap at Tørst in NYC, served in a wine glass.

A- Pours black with a thin brown head, leaves little lacing.

S- Lots of roast, more-so than some of Evil Twin's other stouts, a nice amount of chocolate, vanilla, maybe some caramel.

T- Lots of chocolate, some caramel and dark fruit, big roasty flavors become more prominent towards the finish. A bit of booze towards the finish.

M- Full-bodied, thick and creamy, slightly boozy finish.

O- Another more than solid stout from Evil Twin. This is a style that they really have on lock, but while this is a tasty beer, I do prefer others Evil Twin beers like the Jesus series.
