Clear, dark brown body topped with a dense, semi-creamy light tan head. Fine aroma of rich, toasted grain and dark pitted fruit; molasses; figs and dark raisins; mild booziness; very little bitterness. Heavy body; dense and creamy; velvety smooth; minor alcohol warmth complements the residual sugar presence.
This incredible doppelbock is phenomenal. According to the brewery's German-language web site, the beer was a " ...Gold Medal Winner of the European Beer Star 2021" for German-style dunkler doppelbock. I foresee a side-by-side comparison with another world-class doppelbock also produced in Germany. I hope my local will make this a regular presence in its rotation.

Pours a very dark brown color. I gave it a vigorous pour, but got no head out of it, except a slight layer of film. The smell is very caramellish, possibly a bit of alcohol, a hint of toastiness. Flavor is ... ok. Sweet malt, caramel. Very low hoppiness. Malty mouthfeel but low to flat carbonation.
This is not what I look for in a doppelbock. I would call it decidedly inferior among the German bocks we have available in the states.

Slightly sweet doppelbock, dark brown/ruby with thin silky beige head. Aroma is mostly roast grains with a hint of molasses. Taste has the sweetness come on full bore, with dark grains sharing the palate. Sweet nature hides the high ABV. This is a real gem.

Finished up a 30L barrel of this at the house recently. This is the original German version which is 9% not 7% as stated above (I've submitted request to correct that). A rich and nourishing beer, especially nice for the winter months. Leads with the dense malty aroma that you'd expect for the style and yes you can detect the underlying sweetness to come. Mouthfeel is very nice, rich with some pitted fruit sweetness but also with just a hint of dryness so it's not overbearing. A great representation of the style that is quite drinkable for a high gravity beer.

From the shop outside the monestary (not brewed by the monks, however).
Pours a lovely brown with red hues. Good khaki head and good lacing. Nose has nice malty fruits and is a bit earthy. Flavor...especially as it warms...is a powerhouse of dried fruits and sticky malt. Pretty much what you are looking for in a dopplebock and the best of the brews I've had from this place. Downside is that it is too sweet.

Seeing only 25 reviews for this, decided to review. Looks smells like a any other 'ator' brown, low carbination tastes sweet figs/raisens/malty. Smooth malty and very similar to all the other good Doppelbocks, right up there with Optimator, Celebrator etc, very worthy dopplebock to my tastebuds.
