Dark beers are the traditional Bavarian beers. Common, mild malt flavor is all in addition to the rich, red-black color. Our dark a pronounced freshness in the on trunk is added, then goes up in a soft roundness. The monastery of darkness is a beer for connoisseurs. It is suitable all year round, but especially it fits to the traditional Bavarian cuisine.

Appearance - Garnet/copper body with tan head

Smell - cola, toasted nuts, green tea

Taste - Toasted nuts, green tea, cola, brown bread

Mouthfeel - medium body, medium carbonation, bready flavors upfront and in the backend

Overall - decent representation of the style here. Worth a try.

I had this on draft 10/20/23 @ Sleeping Village.

Opaque dark brown appearance.

Big tan head; decent lacing remained.

Autumn leaf & caramel notes in the nose.

Creamy medium thick mouthfeel.

Caramel, autumn leaf & faint brown sugar notes in the nose.

Fall in a glass. Nice!

Superb stuff with a gorgeous color and pour. Aromas and flavors are an enticing and delicious lightly roasted bready malt. Super smooth and balance. My only complaint is that the mouthfeel is a bit thin. Overall, one of the better of the style I've had.

Beautiful dark reddish copper, medium bone colored head.
Smells of grain, deer-feeder,(I know there’s no corn in it). Plum’s, brown sugar, mildly watery on the backend, which is a good thing because this would be very sessionable.
Oh, how I wish the macros could make something like this, probably good they don’t because I’d be completely useless from drinking it all day.

Pours a dark copper, forming a 1/4 inch off-white head, with heavy lacing on the glass.

The aroma is somewhat mute, only consisting of a light chocolate malt aroma.

Taste is dark bread, chocolate, and just a bit metallic in the finish. Just enough bitterness to keep it from being sweet. The metallic twang disappears as the beer is consumed.

Mouthfeel is light and clean, with medium carbonation.

Overall, not a bad version of a Dunkel! I'm sure this would taste way more amazing on draft than in a bottle (and probably an old one at that), but this is one of the better versions I've had from Germany, that is available here in Texas.

From a 1pint .9 fl oz bottle into a tulip, pours a beautiful clear chestnut that has a lot of reddish hues in the light, 1 finger khaki head of tight little bubbles, modest retention but good lacing. Nose is sweetish toasted (but not roasty) bready and grainy malt…clean single note, with some nice depth…better and fuller as it warms a little. Taste matches the nose, but maybe a little less sweet - this all about some delicious malt, though. Maybe some of the distinctive sweetness comes from a touch of baker’s chocolate and/or a hint of some kind of dark fruit. Not much (if any) notes from yeast that I can discern, and maybe just the slightest hint of earthy hops. Mouthful is great — modest to low carb, soft water, a little dry and slight bitterness on the very end. One of the better dunkels I’ve had in a long time.

Pours out a dark ruby color with a very modest, but lasting head. Aroma is nice: not too sweet, with just the right amount of bready malt--no hops presence, but that's fine. Flavor is mostly sweet but dry (well attenuated, I mean) and with enough hop bitterness that it's not cloying--it's right at that ideal part for a dunkel that I'm giving it a very high score on taste. Excellent malt flavor with a light toastiness. Mouthfeel is good: the body isn't thin, but it's quite drinkable.

Dang, this is an exceptionally fine dunkel! This brewery has only recently become available here in Texas. The first beer of theirs I tried, their doppelbock, was quite disappointing. But this is just what I want out of a normal drinking dunkel, something that's really hard to find these days in the US. It reminds me of the best of what I had in Germany in the 80s.

Bought a bottle of this beer from my favorite beer shop in Dallas.

Poured into a tulip glass. Clear dark brown color with excellent beige head and curtain lacing. Pleasant smell of toffee and roasted malt. Taste follows this but a bit subdued. The beer is also a bit thin but overall pretty good.

Bottle from the Packie.
Pours a deep copper color with a decent sized off white head that persists. Rich toasty bready maltiness with light dried fruits and hints of earthy spicy hopes to counter. Nice Dunkel.

500ml bottle into a tall glass. Best by 11/6/21, so couple months late on this one.

Looks pretty good in the glass. Dark ruby red body. Small off white head shrinks to a fat collar and covering, and leaves excellent lacing.

Malty aroma that has a mild smoky roast to it.

On tasting, malty, very drying, that faint smoky roast is even further in the background. There is some sweetness.

Mouth closer to full than medium, finish dry.

Overall, pretty good dunkel. The dryness goes a bit far, but not enough to detract from the enjoyment.
