Pours a clear light gold, with a half inch white head, and medium lacing. Aroma consists of very light bread and honey. No hop aroma. Taste is not quite what I expected. More malty, probably from the addition of Munich malt to the Pilsner malt body. Bready, light honey, and a very unexpected floral hop finish. Not sure this is what the brewer had in mind, but I’m sure this is not the freshest example either (no dates listed on bottle). Medium mouthfeel with medium carbonation. The flavor lingers long after the swallow. Overall, not bad, but I had higher hopes. The body is a bit heavier than a usual Helles and the flavor profile seems off. I’m going to assume it’s an old beer and hopefully try it sometime on draft where it should be fresher.

Bottle from OEC.
The nose here is a little off. Mildly buttery with a light cereal note that is just off, dulling the hops. Mild honey notes, mild doughy notes that are marred by the diacetyl notes.

Pours pale yellow with a 1.5" white head, which lasts. Moderate lacing to the end. Slight haze.
Aroma is floral, honey, citrus, earthy, grass.
Taste is honey, lemon, biscuit malt, earthy, herbal, sweetish.
Thin bodied, lively carbonation. Semisweet finish.
This is a great summer thirst quencher.

Pours a lightly clouded golden straw topped with a slightly off-white 1.5 fingers of tight foam; good head retention fades to a semi-thick cap and dense collar, as well as a lasting array of lacing.
Aroma opens with rich earthy/biscuity malts evened out steadily by notes of musty grain and honeyed wood; decidedly floral at times, with grassy hop tone becoming more pronounced over time; balanced, a bit understated, but welcoming overall bouquet.
Taste brings out baked biscuit with clean floral tones as support; the mid-palate and largely quick finish feature a bready straw and malty linger, leaving minor earthiness and honeyed grains on the swallow.
Mouthfeel features a medium-light body, amply carbonated, slightly gritty, but straightforward; a clean, fading finish is touched with weighty, earthy malts and lightly bittering hops.
Very easygoing balance to this one, leaving nothing to stand out for too long, but fostering a consistency allowing it to be consumed heartily with little effort; not the best import I've tried, but is by no means without merit.

I was first impressed by the bottle. Then it comes out of a Monastery. As for the more important stuff inside, I really liked the first couple drinks. The taste was malty with sweetness to it. I'm usually a Germany dark lager drinker. This is lighter but had a boldness I could enjoy

I was recently at Hunger-n-Thirst's bottle shop, noodling around as I am wont to do, when the duty attendant asked if I was interested in a German series that had recently arrived. My ears perked up and my curiosity piqued, especially knowing that I was close to a German horizontal anyway. Once I saw them & their relatively inexpensive cost, I was sold! I am now picking up where I left off last night.
From the bottle: "Kloster Edel Hell”
I Pop!ped the cap & let go with a pretty heavy-handed pour since it was a fresh bottle & I was well rested. I got it started & sat back to watch as the head came foaming up & settled into a finger of dense, rocky, foamy, French Vanilla-colored head with good retention. Color was Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 – 5) with NE-quality clarity, prompting yet another visit from The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus. Nose had a toasted biscuit malty sweetness which was quite pleasant. Mouthfeel was medium. Taste was pleasantly, mildly sweet with a biscuity maltiness underlain by a light grassy hoppiness. Finish was semi-dry & quite refreshing. This was a nice, pleasant drink, but nothing to get wildly excited about.

Decanted from a 16.9 oz (500 ml) bottle into a conical pint glass; no production information.
A: Pours a hazy golden brown/brass color with a less than one half inch, white head and pretty limited retention and soapy lacing.
S: Aromas of grains, bread crust and pepper predominate, consistent with the style.
T: Subtle apple and pear flavors with a mild caramel backbone. Thought I got a spiciness from the initial taste, but it did not persist. Bitterness light and subtle, resulting in a very refreshing quality.
M: Light to medium bodied with limited carbonation.
O: A very drinkable and enjoyable Munich Helles lager. A bit disappointed by the lack of effervescence.
