Contract brewed at Custom BrewCrafters in NY, at least they put it out there unlike another well known NYC canned brewery. This beer looks amazing glowing amber with a huge off white milkshake texture cloudy head, the oatmeal additions add enough protein that I could probably float a dime on it. No freshness coding or dates seen on the bottle, that stinks. Let's smell the brew, bright citrus notes, bready malts it's smelling great no signs of hops that are past their prime time to take a sip and dive into the milkshake texture foam. Earthy, bitter edges blend into a citric hop note, slightly medicinal tree bark notes. I can't pinpoint the oatmeal, but there's a complex wave of amber hued malts and big hops in the backend. The more sips you take the more the complexity comes out what a great smelling/tasting beer, well made impressive beyond tap versions of their other beers I've had like the Kind IPA and Rochestafarian Scotch Ale. Shows major promise and keep the trippy psychedelic artwork, definitely inspired by Salvador Dali with the pink elephant riding the big hand on the clock, big hop bud with a tie dye sunset in the background. The big Loopy hop bud with bloodshot eyes, wow this is a beer label. Unfiltered semi cloudy beer in the bottle to boot. Bitterness comes in waves, earthy bitter citric notes with herbal tea malt notes, semi sweet finishes with heavy hop accents, mouthfeel is slightly resinous and the texture is kicked up a notch with the oatmeal additions. Carbonation is creamy smooth textures are wonderful and glide on the palate, overall a very impressive offering even if my review was a bit scattered...to get to the point I like this one.

Beer presents with a burgundy color with medium lacing. Prominent oatmeal and raisin aromas fill the nose as well as some tropical notes. Dry hopped but nothing too strong or over the top. Fruity and sweet after-taste finish it off; but slightly high on the bitter side for me. Generally more find of darker and happier ales. But well worth a whirl!

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #67 (August 2012):

LOOK: Deep red hue; clear, showy lacing

SMELL: Dank, hop resin, piney, spicy, caramel, roses, slightly sweet, chicory, citrus zest

TASTE: Medium body, smooth, slightly creamy, hop bitterness, juicy, resin, buckwheat honey, blood oranges, grassy, bready, toast, figgy; bitter, semidry finish

All the time, this beer spouts off its hoppiness, but we think the real show is the malt backbone that’s able to hold up against such an intricate hoppiness. Very tasty and sessionable regardless of the size, this brew elevates the fun in drinking beer. Good to see someone realized that oats don’t just have to go into Stouts.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy orange copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, orange zest, lemon zest, pear, apple, caramel, biscuit, oats, floral, grass, light pine, and floral earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, orange zest, pear, caramel, biscuit, toffee, oats, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Light amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest, pineapple, pear, caramel, biscuit, oats, toffee, floral, grass, light pine, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice amber ale. Good balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

dark gold, dark honey color with minimal off-white head. lacing is left down the insode of the bottle!
tropical smell of hops prevalent, kind of sweet. almost honey-like. caramel malt, biscuit.
taste is like a typical red ale, but smooth and grainy. dry bitterness at the end. very bitter.
overall, decent, standard, different, but very drinkable and interesting.
