It is not often I drink canned beer, and I don’t intend on changing this stance, but this was another present from a work colleague after his recent trip to Brazil.

A white 350ml can with a gold, red and yellow circular label. SKOL is written in metallic red letters.

The Can was taken right from the fridge and opened with no overspill. The beer pours from the can a brilliant pale yellow straw color. The head is huge, and fills my 20 fl.oz. Glass to the brim. A smooth, very white, expansive pillowy head slowly rescinds to a smooth covering of ¼”. Aromas are very clear and one-dimensional, hops with some metallic hints.

Tastes are nothing enthralling, but neither are they offensive. Introduction is bitter and has a very clean crisp hop-bitter taste. Some slight butterscotch after the beer has left the mouth, but again, not offensive or out of place. A Pilsner-style lager that is easily drinkable, but it lacks real depth of character to be anything more than a quaffable thirst quencher, which is obviously its primary rôle in Brazil.

An above average macro-produced pseudo-pilsner.

Another south american/central america beer, another pale beer. I think they push for refreshing and alcohol before flavor, but this beer was the best I tasted in Brazil. Pours very pale, with a slight and quickly disappearing head. The flavor is somewhat citrus. On a hot day at the beach in Rio, it's a great commodity. Cool, refreshing and fullfilling. The bikinis don't hurt either.

Review: Bottle of Skol lager 4.7 ABV

A crystal clear crisp pilsner. No real bite or kick to it, but went down very easily, lovely to drink actually. Nice taste, not bitter.

A lovely looking beer, a light golden color with a small head with moderate lacing. Key characteristic is that it had a very lovely aroma. Aromas of sweet corn, grains and hay.

One negative is that there is not much bang for your buck. Small bottles, dont last too long in my house, especially since Skol is so easy to drink.

Overall a nice beer, and nice for a hot day, drinking to relax.

appearance: Moderate bone white head of which a little remains after receding. The beer is a clear, pale golden in color. No lacing.

smell: Light malt and cereal grain (rice). Light hop aroma, slight sulfur funk.

mouthfeel: High carbonation and very light body.

taste: Pretty much the same as the smell. Crisp and clean.

drinkability: Very easy and refreshing

Entered from notes taken this past summer. Cancelled Varig flight, put up in the Dobly Hotel in Guarulhos, found this Skol in my minibar. I must've drank 50 bombers of this stuff over my stay, but never got around to rating it before now.

Found this at the local good beer store for $5 a sixer... not bad!

A - Looks like a plain ol' adjunct later... golden clear brew with a foamy white head.

S - Not much going on here...a bit more malty than American mass-produced lagers, but nothin' special.

T - This is somewhat boring, but it's head and shoulders above mainstream BMC stuff (at least for what it is). The solid malts are essentially what BMC should be shooting for in a mass produced and easy to drink lager, but it seems that the average palate here in the states demands LESS FLAVOR! and LESS FILLING! brew.

M - Light in body, and easy going, but full for the style. This isn't some 55 calorie bulshit.... this is a decently weighted lager.

D - Excellent for a post-workout brew or a lawn mower beer. Again, nothing about this is outstanding or even interesting, but it is a solid easy going and easy drinking lager. Someone needs to turn that interesting Dos Equis guy on to this stuff... it's honestly better that most Mexican lagers (which I would consider this brew's peers).

Skol Beer
11.2 oz brown bottle
Jet ink on the back label - 06. 10. 2006 P2 08
Served in a pilsner glass

Pours a pale yellow with mini carbonation bubbles that race to the top of the glass. A frothy, bleach white forms top and transforms to a circular lace around the glass.

Light nose with wiffs of grains and cereal.

Grainy corn flavors with a touch of honey sweetness. Similiar qualities to a watered down pilsner. Refreshing, clean and drinkable.

A: A thin layer of bubbles around the perimeter of the glass, but practically no head retention. No lacing.

S: Weak sweet aroma.

T: Best served extremely cold (-4C). It has a sweet dominating taste without any strong indication of hops.

M: Coarse in the mouth since it lacks any head and has medium-heavy carbonation.

D: Easier to drink than Bohemia since it not as bitter, however, it's ingredients/make is not as good as Bohemia. It is a better "every day beer," but it is on the sweet side so some might be turned away from it.

This is a very common and easy to find beer in Brazil; I am not sure how much different it would be when exported to the USA.

Good thirst quenching beer. Poured a typical pale yellow, with an average white head. Very hoppy smell. A little one sided, perhaps only one type of hop used, but hoppy. Little bitter taste. Not alot of malts in neither scent nor taste. Overpowered by hops, but some grassy taste and a little adjunct leave a sweet aftertaste. Good, drinkable brew on a hot, muggy day.

My co-worker, stationed in Sao Paulo, brought me 5 samples of Brazilian beer (all pilsners) – so these are fresh (and cheap, only .50 each from a market). This was sample #3

This one poured a very lite and clear yellow, however with a decent white head that laced my pilsner glass. Good lookin' carbination bubbles arose for the entire quaff duration.

Just some hints of malt and euro skunk in the aroma, and the taste was equally weak - some subtle grains with a small hop finish. On the bland and uninspiring side.

Mouth was sharp/biting/clean/crisp. This would make for a good lawnmower brew in the summer, IF the price was right.

Picked up a can at Euro Market in Astoria. Unsurprisingly, this is a fizzy refreshing (if you're into adjunct beer) lager. I get a hint of toasted corn in the aroma, but otherwise it's a pretty clean, crisp beer. It's not watery, but it's close. If you want a drinkable lager for, I dont know, a summer soccer match (reaching too far?), here's a decent option. Aside from the novelty of being Brazilian, there's nothing else remarkable here.

This is available all over the Atlantic coast of Brazil. When it's cold, it suffices. But if you let it warm up, you'll regret it. It has no redeeming qualities so to speak, it's just available everywhere.

Wimpy head of less than an finger, but the lace had some clinging power. Color matched a 4 on the SRM beer color chart. Smell was a little harsh and of wet corn, and veggies. Taste was refreshing, with flavors of cereal grains, citrus and malt. Mouthfeel was lacking any real body and creaminess, but did have some fizz. Good beer to drink with the locals on St Kitts. The view of the clear blue water makes the experience of drinking beer on the beach, much better.

Would prefer a Budweiser or Coors Banquet over this. One of the cheaper beers in Brazil but it's a forgettable brew. Would not pay top dollar for an import but if I ever found myself back down south I would try one of these again. It is better than the other Brazilian alternatives (Kaiser/Brahma) but it made me think twice about paying more than $5 for a good old Budweiser.

Poured from a 269ml can into a pint glass

A: Pours a completely clear, light golden color. There is a huge, bright white foam head of 2+ fingers which fades moderately quickly to a cap and ring of foam.

S: Smells of sweet grains. Very little else.

T: Sweet grain is the theme here. Maybe some corn? Very light touch of noble hops provides some grass to counter the sweetness. Faint presence of alcohol. Short finish.

M: Surprisingly low carbonation detracts from the experience. A little thicker than your standard BMC product.

O: Standard macro fare. Somewhat sweeter and thicker than many other adjunct lagers.

A: Pours crystal clear pale yellow with a frothy white head. Very good head retention is present as well as moderate amounts of lacing. Some visible carbonation is also present.

S: Aromas of corn and grains with just a hint of sweet lemon.

T: Very light flavored but the primary flavor I get is a kind of waxy sweet lemon (similar to lemonade or shandy). Not much complexity and very little bitterness. Overall kind of watery.

M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Having also tried this beer on tap when I was in Sao Paulo, it is not any different from the can - and just as I remembered it. Could be refreshing on a really hot day but not really anything special. Almost tastes like a PBR with just a hint of lemon pledge in it.

Skol is similiar with most American Adjunct Lagers, golden clear in color with decent carbonation that provided a foamy head to start which dissapated quickly. The smell and taste was powered by grain and some malt/hop. It is a smooth easy drinking beer that is not exotic in taste, but not bad either. Worth a try to say you did...I suppose.

S: There are aromas of sweet corn in the nose along with some hints of lemon.
T: The beer is somewhat sweet and has flavors of corn.
M: It feels light-bodied and somewhat watery on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink but nothing really stands out in the taste that would make me want to try it again.

So, I see a stack of shrink-wrapped 6 packs in a tiny local store and give it a try. $13! But hey it's new to me, it's an import from Brazil, why not? I get home and pop a can and the unusual smell I would best describe as a fish broth stock pot. Not necessarily bad, just unusual. Poured beautifully with a 3" white head which took quite awhile to slowly recede. Body is a standard pilsner clear straw yellow. Taste initially had some of the grassy grainy taste of a pilsner but as it sat and warmed it became just sort of water with a hint of sweetness. So compared to other mainstream pilsners I'd give it an edge on appearance and a demotion on taste.

A product of Ambev, this beer is a commercial lager style, made for a mass of consumers wishing to drink something (slightly) different than water. It´s not too different in comparison with their competitors, many of them also produced by Ambev (Antarctica, Brahma, Bohemia, Original).
A pale lager beer, with low bitterness (around 10 IBU), Original Gravity around 11 Plato. Almost no fermentation aroma.

Well, the only purpose of this is to make you drink a lot of it in a hot day...

I had this beer at the airport in Sao Paulo. From a can, the beer is a light, american-style lager. Smells of corn, a bit of grass. Lightly sweet, and grainy. Not as dry as many of the style, but not very interesting. Simple, straightforward, and uninteresting.

It has a greenish color, clean, with half finger of white foam.
A hint of hop in the smell, and malt, all very light.
Same for the taste. No problem here, but for sure really light, and a very faint taste.
Just some hop.
Extremely watery, thirst-quenching, sure, and relatively dry.
No body.

2 cans bought and consumed in Belem.
Poured pale yellow-gold with a weak white head.
Feel: watery light body with medium-high carbonation.
Flavor: Very mild and slightly sweet flavor with only a touch of hops and a short-lived aftertaste. The aroma is also very subdued.

O: Weak and light.

10 oz

Pours a light gold with some white suds for a head.

Coppery sugar malt aroma.

Barley malt flavor, dry, with a mild dry hop.

Light body with a light tingle of carbonation on the tongue.

Not terrible, but boring. Just an average adjunct lager on par with standard American fare in that category.
