Had never drunk more drink of Brazil... It was just to meet and even appear. Yellow straw-colored translucent; the aroma sent me to childhood, in the time of holidays and birthdays, and my father (who at the time also took such a Malte 90); slightly bitter taste on the first sip, then tasteless corn. Do not lose to other common nor win.

Another hard to describe south american beer.
Very pale, with a white head that is rather small but perhaps secondary to it being very cold.
Smells of really nothing but alcohol/beer, a little better than Budweiser. Thin on the palate, with very little taste but refreshing.
Other than that, nothing special. Very weak overall.
I had maybe half of it, and discarded the remaining.

Pours a pale yellow with a thin layer of head that leaves some lacing. The smell is heavy on musty/corn/graininess with no hops and some syrupy sweetness. Taste is flavorless upfront followed by corn and grain followed by a heavy metallic note. Flavors are neither clean nor refreshing, this one is pretty bad.

Straight pour from 630ml bottle to Pilsner / Pokal glass

Appearance (2.0): Very light golden in color, one finger head fading to very thin disc of bone-white head with very little lacing.

Smell (1.5): This has AAL written all over it. Faintly sweet and processed, no bitterness apparent whatsoever.

Taste (2.0): More or less following the nose, but with just a bit of the crisp malt body that you’d expect from this kind of beer. Nothing pronounced about it, just very light and processed. Tastes like water mixed with sweet pilsner.

Mouthfeel (2.0): Watery. No body to speak of, and the carbonation is very slight to begin with, and fades anyway.

Overall (2.0): This is basically Bud Light in Brazil. Is it good? No. Is it everywhere? Yes. Is it cheap? Yes. Are you going to drink it? Almost inevitably. Can you enjoy it? Sure, on a hot day or night with a bunch of friends around, a few bottles of Skol is just fine. But as far as beer goes, even if it’s not the worst thing out there, it’s not great, to say the least.

That's one of the most popular beers in Brazil (and I've spent many years of my life drinking it, unfortunately). In the end, one more mass production "beer" from Ambev.

A: Clear pale yellow color and a huge aired and bubbled head. Nevertheless, the concentration of bubbles in the bottom looks like it's artificially carbonated. Well, so far, it looks like a real beer :))

S: Not much to tell here. Cheap corn, some malts... A bit stinky to tell you the true

T: I'm still looking for the taste. Couldn't find it. Really tasteless... Additionally, no bitterness! For god's sake, this is meant to be a Beer so, where are the hops?!

M: Very light and watery body. High carbonation

D: If you can, avoid it. If you can't, well... avoid it anyway... :p

Found an old notebook today while cleaning up my office that had a list of reviews.

Beer pours a light gold very similar to the color to Bud Light. Smell is similar, corn, pilsner-esque. Somewhat refreshing on a warm day but like most adjuncts not something special.

I drank the whole can but not something I would have after another even if the only choice.

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsner glass. pours a light straw color with a finger of white head. crystal clear.

smell is malty, pale and munich, with a hint of a floral base and a touch of caramel. not much on the hop side. there is a slight skunky character as well.

taste is not impressive. there is a light malt flavor up front, though very watered down. there is also a grainy character, which is also very subtle. finishes on a light malt note that turns into a corn-mash flavor. this is too watered down to be refreshing.

mouthfeel is light-bodied, with a watery texture and a light bite from carbonation.

drinkability is good, if one enjoys water with a touch of flavoring in it. if the flavors were intensified two-fold, then they might have a decent brew here.

A- 2 fingers of persistant off-white head, carbonation throughout a clear gold body. Definately not outstanding

S- Sweet grains with some fruityness and a hint of butterscotch are hidden beneath a layer of skunk.

T- Not astounding. Very watery start leads to ethanol middle a a stronger hops end. A bitter aftertaste that lingers on with the rotten veggies.

M- Clean, mostly beacause it's watery. Leaves very little on palate.

D- Easy to down but I wouldn't want another... probably ever.

350 ML can. Poured into a fruit juice-sized glass. Freshness date stamped on side.
It pours a pale yellow gold with a snow-white head.
It smells mainly of fresh mowed lawn with a bit of grainy malt.
The malt body is thin and weak. A taste reminiscent of cornflakes comes to mind. A mild grainy malt taste is in the background.
The hop bitterness is made up of a very mild citrusy taste, then a touch of a harsh metallic bite. This beer tastes a little old and moldy. There’s a lightly waxy mouthfeel and no really redeeming factors to this brew.

It poured no head. Faint aroma of cereals, not malty.
Good carbonation and very light body.
Taste follows aroma (including its intensity), sweetness from corn mostly. I could not feel no bitterness whatsoever and had a rather watery ending. Refreshing while cold though.

Skol didn't really show too much more than just being another Adjunct Lager. This flavor is crisp and a bit on the dry side. The color is yellow and has a minimal head on it. The smell is of grains and malts. Not much hops. This is a regular drinking social type of beer. Fun it you want to try something from another country but that's about all.

This is one of Brazil's most popular beers. It is seemingly everywhere, bar from soccer matches and concerts where Kaiser is usually served. This is just your typical mass-produced lager. Pours a straw yellow with a foamy white head. Taste... hmmm.. Not much of it, but it is thankfully missing some of the nasty flavors offered up by competitor Kaiser. Drinkability is decent, i guess. Not much can be said about this beer. Although I definitely enjoy having it in my hand (i'm guessing this is because of my surroundings when this beer is in my hand).

Multiple samplings from multiple cold bombers at a party in São Leopoldo during my first ever day in Brazil, on to the beer:

Very pale...wow, this is becoming redundant in my pale lager reviews. The head is creamy on top with decent retention. Okay, I'll shorten this one...rice seems to pave the way for it's light, neutral, and semi-crisp flavor with an herbal aftertste. Like a Budweiser, but with a bit stronger taste. Not too great, but not one I would reject if handed to me,

This is the #1 selling beer in Brazil, and most of its reason IMO is to the credit of thier commercials (do a YouTube search for Skol if you're intersted). Kind of meh, but it did go well with churrasco.

And one other thing...if you're clubbing in Brazil, this (and its brother Skol Beats) is one of the few beer options available.

Update 11/30/09: I've had this a number of times already on my second trip to Brazil. There's more excessive sweetness and graininess to this beer, and one that gets really nasty as it warms. It's half-tolerable when it's at -2 C, but after that, prepare your gag reflexes.

pours a very pale yellow (as in: "this doesn't look very good").
bubbly head that subsides VERY fast, not leaving much of a lace.
smells of water with a little beer mixed, and the same can be said about the mouthfeel.

as for tha taste... well, really lacking. I used to like this stuff, but after I started tatsing craft beer, it just seems like yellow water. not worth trying, if you really thirsty and it's a hot day, go for cold bottled water.

269 mL mini-can,

A: Pours a pale yellow with a light white head, surprisingly good head retention for this style and some light lace.

S: It's corny, not much else, smells a lot like a MGD.

T: Taste of sweet corn dominates, sickly sweet at times, can't find the barley or a hop.

M: Cloying sweet, especially as it warms, not clean. Crisp at cold temperatures, very light-bodied with a tad too much carbonation.

D: Not the worst macro in the world, but drink it fast and cold so the sweetness doesn't go crazy. The can went down fast, but I don't see myself wanting to drink multiples of this lager.

9.6666 oz bottle poured into a white wine glass · fridge temp · best by june 10th, 2011 · this beer was brewed in St. Kitts under license from Skol International

Appearance: Looks like a buttery chardonnay, with deep golden yellow hues. A quite soapy, white head builds quickly and leaves almost as fast.

Smell: Another immediate skunky aroma hits right after opening the bottle. It sticks with the beer, which isn't a good sign. Behind all that is a raw pilsner malt (think mash tun aroma) smell that is different. Corn Flakes would be a good way to describe this one. Maybe it's a stale hop aroma?

Taste: A pinchy beer reveals a minerally malt flavor along with sharp dryness. More of that familiar Corn Flake taste mixes with a bitter hop bite. Not quite the flavor slouch you'd expect.

Mouthfeel: Thin, well-carbonated, cereal, slight bitterness, no apparent alcohol.

Drinkability: Not a bad beer that drinks quickly because of the latent dryness. It really does beg for more drinking. Need to fix the skunk!

My girlfriend brought me back a bottle of this from her recent trip to Rio. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pilsener glass.

a - Pours a very transparent yellow color with high carbonation evident and one inch of white head.

s - Smells of bready malts, grains, sour, skunky notes, and light vegetables. Not very enjoyable at all.

t - Tastes of stale bready malts, sour, skunky notes, grains, and rice. A bit of a step down from the nose; not very good at all.

m - Light body and high carbonation that stings the tongue. Overcarbonated.

o - Overall not a very good beer. Smell is a bit skunked and the taste is stale and skunked. Wouldn't seek this one out, actually worse than bohemia.

Friend of my wife's brought this back from Brazil. Glad I got a chance to try it, but also glad I only had 1 to put down. The appearance is actually very nice with a very clear, golden body and a super frothy white head that left massive lacing. The aroma was typical of a macro lager. A hint of skunkiness followed by sweet smell of a corn-based beer. The taste and mouthfeel are where this beer goes south. The taste is metallic and a bit sharp. The body is lifeless and the psuedo-sweetness is a bit gross. One thing is for sure, a taste of this out of the can is 20x worse than when poured in a glass. This just brings me back to college parties with a keg of Beast Light. Nice to try a beer from Brazil, but now I can move on.

The first of two 473 ml cans brought to me by my friend's mother on a visit from Brazil (note my friend and his wife both said to drink this ice cold, I tried it this way and also let it warm up a bit). Pours very pale yellow to very light golden in color, with a thick (1.5 fingers) white head. The head quickly disappears, leaving just a hint of lacing on the glass. Nearly no aroma is present, perhaps a slight smell of grass. Taste is nearly flavorless, there is a bit of dryness in the finish, but otherwise its very, very plain--the flavor isn't offensive or bad in anyway, its just not there. This is definitely an easy drinking beer, going down quite smooth in a thin, watery sorta way. Certainly not a beer I would look forward to (if for no other reason than its absence of flavor), but it is fairly good at being what it is--a potentially refreashing beer in a hot climate.

Pours gold with a small head.
Nose shows sweet hay, very soft fruit and light floral notes. Hay is the dominant aroma though.
Sweet flavours; more hay, light fruity, faint vegetal notes. Not bad, although hardly what you'd call interesting.
Carbonation could be higher.

Got this while in Brazil, at a decent wine, beer, and liquor shop in the downtown area of Larajeiras, Vitoria, E.S.

Super clear almost no color beer with just a hint of yellow, and light fizzy head.

Nose light cheap lager, extract and light malts, light skunk.

Taste is the same, very light and watery with light lager flavors, very light malts, plenty of skunk and cheap extract flavors, some icky bitterness, minerality watery.

Mouth is light and watery, with decent carbonation.

Drink is OK, light and watery, but lots of skunk to offset it.

A new offering to the region-- figured I'd give it a shot. I expect a certain amount of grain character, adjucts (corn), and thinness. This beer is quite on par per my expectations. A clear, straw colored beer with very active carbonation, and with a head retention that did not hold much weight. The aromas and flavors show initially strong pilsner malt sweetness and raw grain qualities, but soon shift to mostly grain, leaving some harsh astringency on the throat and undersides of the toung. Hops have a medium bitterness and lay a grassy note on the toung. Alcohols seem quite high, with low beer qualities to absorb any strength. Quite hot and solvanty / soapy late, going into the finish. All grain in the end with a light linger of hops and metal. A beer to drink under only the most dire of circumstances.

A: Pours a yellow body with a with head with no rentention.

S: Undetectable in the right temperature, metallic when the beer warm it up.

T: Weak and very refreshing with high carbonation, must be served extremely cold, or the drinkability will decrease to the illness.

M: The high carbonation and low temperature make a freshness mouthfeel. Despite that theres nothing to be found here, as is common in the style.

O: A refreshing beer to be drinking in extremely low temperatures with a good drinkability in that condiction, when the beer gets warm, it becomes very awful.

Looks and smells like your average new world pilsner lager. Golden in colour with light lacing. Aroma has a corn smell which creeps through in the taste. Ice cold on a hot day this beer can be acceptable if the price is right. Otherwise, spend a little extra and buy something else.
