Good look with a murky brown body and decent head. Doesn't stick much. Not bad overall though.

Nose is far too faint for the bruising dubbel style. Caramel and pepper are in there with a slight fruitiness and a dry chalky sensation as well.

The flavor is similar in that it is good but not great and generally uncompelling. Raisin and other dark fruits mingle with the caramel but they do not build to a greater, more complex purpose. As with other calavera beers I have had, it comes out a little thin, tasting of carbonation, and generally lacking the highest levels of attenuation skills. This is easily the most difficult trick in the book and the Belgians hav had centuries to perfect it. Calavera is on its way but still has a lot of work to do.

this ale looked promising, but the resulting aromas and flavors did not match the expectation. poured a reddish brown with a persistent tannish head. specks of lacing cling to the sides of the tulip glass. initial nose is candi sugar, brown sugar, and something coppery and slightly rancid. over the tongue i get chewy malt, a little wet cardboard, and a smoked meat finish. mouthfeel is a little lighter than other dubbel style brews i have tried. long aftertaste that does not make make thirst for another.

A thick twoonie sized mousse like head comes out right off the bat, which is followed up by a light carbonation. And the nose was bold with strong malt, caramel and prune aromas grabbing you. I found this to be a sweet, malty beverage that didn't even hint at being bitter or hoppy.

L- Dark brown with a very creamy light beige head.
S- Sweet caramel and sugar aroma.
T- Sweet taste w/ caramel, plums, bread and burnt toffee.
F- Heavy, chewy.
O- Good beer but wouldn't have it again, taste and feel is a bit too chewy and raw for me.

Pours deep brown with a white (tainted) foam head very little retention. Aroma is malty and spicy, but very mild. Taste is complex, malty, sweet, bitteress is very low. Medium body with low carbonation, overall nice mexican dubbel, but not great.

Light murky brown color with a thin head with very short term retention.
Predominant malty and grainy aroma with notes of caramels and cognac.
Malty flavor with grains, hay, some citrusy, caramels, booze, raisins and herbal hop notes.
Interesting that the aroma indicated a much heavier body and a bolder beer, but the promise wasn’t fulfilled. Light body ending watery with medium carbonation.
Lacks complexity on a body that cannot hold its just 6.4% abv and it does not feel balanced. Bland for the style, not awful, but I wouldn’t have it again.
