Waiii...what? 2 Delirium Cafés in Brazil? Yes! And the one in Rio de Janeiro earned its fame by becoming the first location in the Americas. And what better neighborhood to put it than Ipanema?

Several tables with people slowly sipping their beers out of lovely branded glassware greeted my eyes before I turned my head and spotted myself in front of Delirium Café. The interior is small, however its low ceiling made it feel very cozy. A small bar has several seats, one where I found myself during my stay. Delirium themed things around the place. A good lovely crowd on hand. Feeling good.....

The beer list is large, listing more than 300 bottles, and heavy with imported bottled. Eight different beers were pouring from tap, poruing Delirium Tremens (naturally!), Green Flash, Gulden Draak, Three Monkeys, and Averbode, while bottled options include Bodebrown, To Ol, Struisse, Oudbeitje, Sierra Nevada, Dieu du Ciel, Way, Bamberg, Piraat, and St. Bernardus. Glassware is performed well here.

One downside; it's not cheap. Okay, and I suspect that a busy Friday night could see yourself put on a waiting list. Otherwise, this is a welcome addition to the Rio beer scene.

Just came back from another trip to Rio and visited some different beer places.

Delirium Cafe is in Ipanema Beach. Very affluent part of town. Expect to see lots of foreigners. Pretty much everybody speaks English.

I was there the day they were increasing their tap capacity. They now have about 10 beers on tap. Even though their specialty is Belgium Beers, they carry lots of other beers from the world over. Also have good selection of limited Brazilian Micro Brews.

The bartenders do know a good deal about beers, but the waiters leave a lot to be desired. Order beers at the bar and you will be good.

Price is quite expensive. Mostly dictated by the location. Expect to pay about US$12 for a pint of Belgium Beer and a little less for Brazilian Crafts.

Overall good place, frequented by the who is who of the Rio craft beer scene.
