BEER INFO

Brewed by:
2nd Shift Brewing

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
A small wonder to behold, with all the hop flavors and aromas and coming in at only 4.3% abv. Some people would call it a session IPA but they would be wrong because that makes no sense. It's a low alcohol double IPA or maybe a imperial table beer or an American Light Lager that uses ale yeast and 10 times the hops as normal

Golden hued beer with good clarity. There's a half inch of tightly packed eggshell white on top. Brussels lacing. The nose is a good blend of tropical hops with notes of pineapple and mango and light malt. The flavor is initially tropical hops on the front of the palate. Pineapple and mango are the main notes and then a somewhat subdued hop bitterness along with a sourdough bread note in the mix. The mouth is fairly smooth and dry.

Nice drinkable APA. Hop profile up front is really present but finishes clean. Just the way I like it.

Pours pale gold, quite bright. Large eggshell head. Good retention and lots of lacing.

Quite hoppy aroma. Floral and tropical. Cut grass and light crackery malt.

More hops on the tongue. Grassy and floral. Bitter orange and mango. No real malt to speak of.

Fairly mild mouth feel with medium+ carbonation. Some hoppy bitterness.

Nice smooth pale ale. Hops more like an IPA. Would like a bit more malt counterbalance.

i really do love all the beer these guys do, but in the end, its their wild/saison types and dark stuff that always impresses me the most, and while there are a few notable exceptions to that (brewcocky!), that holds true here too. this is good, and its packed with juicy hop flavor, especially for being so light, but its also insanely bitter to finish, so much so that the "session" tag almost needs to be dropped from it despite it coming in so low in strength. a little haze here, a majorly mouthwatering nose of grapefruit and spruce and gin, and it starts off tasting that way too, but the pungent hops turn bitter fast, and i realize soon that there is not enough grain flavor or weight to make this even close to balanced, and it finishes a little harsh for me, even though i know it doesnt intend to do that. my palate was a little foggy when i dipped into this one, so i will have to revisit it under different circumstances, but the takeaway for me was that it would be a better and more complete and drinkable beer if the bitterness was scaled back but pretty much everything else remained the same. the bast part about these guys is how good their beer is and how not seriously they seem to take themselves. always a treat to drink on their stuff!

On tap at Cugino's. Beautiful gold pour with high head and impressive lacing. Nose is near perfect mango/citrus and palate comes in as expected. Clean finish leaves me wanting more!
