for all the special variants and treatments this beer gets, the more of them i have, i always find myself gravitating back to the original. this is a cool edition, and the apricot flavor in it is both obvious and authentic to the fruit, but i think what we gain with the fruit here we maybe a little bit more than lose in the yeast character. katy by itself is so dry and interesting on the yeast side, its subtle and drinkable beer, but the funk and the layers are memorable and unique and special, and i think the forwardness of the fruit is a little more robust than that, and so we lose it just a bit. its not brutish or forced, far from it, the apricot is ripe and fresh and in line in terms of dose, i still taste the wheaty base and the partially wild yeasts just fine, but its not so elegant i dont think, maybe thats the best way to describe it. the sourness is tempered by the fruit, but thats not whats missing, its this sort of "it factor" that comes from the subtle and clean but also distinctive and intriguing yeast that i miss here compared to the base beer. summery and fresh and delicious though, and like all beers these guys make, especially if its a katy edition, its worth seeking out. some will like this more than the original, but that beer is a monument for me...

Golden-straw yellow body, one finger white head, fair retention and lacing. Mild apricot tartness and stonefruit pervade the Katy base, with mild grainy sweetness, light leather, mild-moderate lactic acidity, even lighter funk. Apricot is more of a dried apricot variety and isn't too aggressively tart. Good medium body, nice carbonation and smooth slightly fruity finish.

Pours a cloudy, gold color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Good retention and slight lacing. Smells of strong bacterial funk, strong citrus, hint of hop, slight alcohol, and a hint of yeast. Fits the style of an American Wild Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with a high carbonation level. There is also a noticeable dryness. Tastes of strong fresh apricot, bacterial funk, slight alcohol, yeast, hint of pale malt, and a hint of hop. Overall, decent appearance, good aroma, great body and blend.
