A - Poured out a cloudy, golden amber color with a three-finger, off-white head of bubbly foam it. left sudsy rings of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled slightly tart with a strong yeasty presence. Some grain aroma and fruitiness.

T - Tasted of plum and other dark fruits. Some spicy/yeasty bite. A nice taste of grains.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with clean finish.

O - This is a very tasty beer. 2nd Shift has made a very nice Belgian-style ale.

This is an ever changing farmhouse ale, and eventually needs to either be listed by batch, or have some batch information in the notes. i have tried batch #2, #3, #4, and #5, and they are each different. From what I understand, it is the same base recipe fermented with a different yeast strain each batch. I found 2 & 3 to be rustic, tart, and funky, #4 was a traditional french saison yeast (dupont maybe?!), and #5 seems to be a tripel or wit yeast with loads of banana esters to boot. My rating is for batch #3, my favorite.

750 mL gusher of a bottle. Batch 3, which is a yeast unique to each batch. Hazy with an ample white head that settles to a chunky surface and a medium collar. Smells a little lemony. Yeasty, A little doughy and equally acidic. Tart taste. Lots of pale malt. Very yeasty finish. Medium light and high carbonation. Whatever the single yeast is, it takes over and dominates the flavor.

Pours with a foamy egg shell white head. Body is a murky golden straw tone. Nose is flower and has a hint of rose petal white fruits and soap. Crisp and wonderfully mouth filling with soft apricot and champagne notes. This turns creamy as you continue to drink. Really really good beer that is a real joy to drink.

Poured from the bottle a lightly hazy pale yellow with a thin, bright white head. Light left with this one.

Lighter aroma of lemon, yeast, light herbs and table salt.

The taste was a touch weak, but opened with yeast, light lemon and medicinal notes. Picked up malts, table salt and a light bitterness in the finish.

Lighter bodied and dry with a moderate carbonation.

Not one of my favorites, but a solid Saison from the folks at 2nd Shift.
