This big, malty stout is brewed with oats and spiced with orange peel, nutmeg allspice and coriander! A collaborative brew with our friends at Solemn Oath Brewery in Naperville. Fermented with a combination of yeast from Abbey Westmalle and sexy love. Try its counterpart, 'Nothing Rhymes With Orange!'

Served in a tumbler at the brewpub.
What about "light urple"? Anyway, this stuff pours a straight onyx topped by a finger of brown foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, nutmeg, ginger, clove, light candied orange peel, and pretzel. The taste brings in more of the same, along with some light coffee, light burnt biscuit, and black pepper. Things seem a bit overdone here, but not by too much, thankfully. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying finish. Overall, a surprisingly tasty beverage, especially considering my usual wariness when it comes to spiced stouts. Now I gotta track down Solemn Oath's version...

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 4oz taster.
A - Dark tan foam settles to a partial cap, thick collar, and intricate lace patterns. Black body with a hint of brown at the edges of the glass.
S - The aroma is dominated by phenolic Belgian yeast, with roasted barley coming a distant second. There's some spice, but I'm not sure if it's from the yeast or the coriander addition.
T - The taste is odd - a mix of citrus peel, dark breads, phenolic yeast, roast, and curry spices. There's a bit of baker's chocolate and espresso bitterness in the finish.
M - Pleasant active carbonation, smooth creamy texture, medium body, and no alcohol. The oats come out quite a bit here.
D - This was very odd and it was very tough to drink all 4oz (although to be fair it was the last of my five tasters). I really wish Solemn Oath didn't ruin what seem to be enjoyable base beers with a shit ton of spices all the time. Skip this one.

This beer is a beautiful dark color, almost pitch black. The mouthfeel is appropriately dense and head retention is pretty good.
The aroma is the first sign of its harshness-very strong char/burnt grains, not sweet, very low levels of ester aroma. It tastes even more harsh than it smells and bitterness is almost overwhelming. I expected fruity esters from Westmalle yeast, but they are masked by scorched coffee.
Orange peel, nutmeg, allspice, and coriander are used in this beer but they are all overpowered. I like the mouthfeel contribution of the oats. I feel that this beer has potential if it is balanced out with sweetness, and maybe allowed to convey the character of the spices and yeast a little more.
